3/15/21 Parent "Patriot Post"
Cedar Grove Elementary School
Home of the "Proud Patriots"
The mission of Cedar Grove Elementary is to grow our students into respectful, curious and productive citizens.
We Are Making Progress!
Thank you, thank you, thank you...
I also kindly ask that you recommit to the daily completion of the COVID Health Screening Form. Each morning, our school nurses are faced with the daunting task of calling the parent of each child without a form. We need to keep our school safe and efficiently running. Please set a daily reminder on your phone to complete this form.
Lastly, this coming week the middle and high schools will welcome back in-person students four days a week. This undoubtedly will cause some delays in busing, at least at the beginning. Please be patient as I expect our buses will be running late.
Additional information regarding phase four:
- We thank those families who continue to walk to pick up their children from school. If you walk through our back fields in the afternoon, please use the path (along the right of the field as you face our school). Our Physical Education classes use the fields during last period (12:54-1:23) when the weather cooperates.
- Students may be marked "Present but Virtual" in Genesis when a student is scheduled to be in-person and cannot attend because they are displaying symptoms and have documented those symptoms on the COVID-19 Screening Form or is out on quarantine.
- To change your child's learning model selection, you must complete the "Request to Change Learning Model" document on the front page of our website under COVID-19 Resources. Per policy, we have 10 days to accommodate this request.
Community of Readers Initiative
Help Us Meet Our Goal of 15,000 Books Read By May 21st!
Please join our “Community of Readers” Initiative! We invite all official and unofficial members of our Cedar Grove family to participate: Students, teachers, staff, administrators, parents, grandparents, community members…
Our goal is to read 15,000 books to celebrate the power of reading and the importance of literacy in all our lives. Our reading initiative will take place between March 1st and May 21st.
This week, Mr. Lanza posted a "Friday Message" to share with our Young Patriots the importance of daily reading. We have noticed that our students' reading levels are not as high this year as in a typical year. We all know that the only way for students to grow their reading skills is to read!
We are off to a slow start in meeting our reading goal, so please help us! To participate, click on the applicable google link to share your read book titles:
- Reading Log -- Google Form for Students
- Reading Log -- Google Form for Cedar Grove Families and Staff
- Reading Log -- Google Form for our "Extended Cedar Grove Family Members" (Community members as well as relatives of our Cedar Grove Families). Feel free to forward our newsletter to family members and friends to participate!

Special Area Enrichment
Voluntary Opportunities for Students
Click on the Enrichment Calendar for the schedule and live links. This is our current schedule of events. We will be taking attendance and gauging student feedback to determine the success of these classes and make modifications, as necessary. If students choose to attend an enrichment class, be sure to attend only at a time that is not previously scheduled with a classroom teacher, ESL teacher, basic skills teacher, G/T teacher or resource room teacher.
Teachers will share the schedule with students, as well. We hope our students enjoy this opportunity!
