MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
As many of you already know, last night a Blue Ribbon Committee meeting was held at Parcells Middle School. While the committee has been working through scenarios to address the district's declining enrollment for some time, last night was the first time that specific school names were listed for potential closure. Kerby's name was listed in some of the scenarios that were presented. The reason is that the district is seeking to expand our Early Childhood program, and Kerby was identified as a prime location due to its centrality in the district and the number of first floor classrooms. Please understand that at this time NO decisions have been made. The Blue Ribbon Committee has one meeting remaining, and will present its work to the Board of Education on April 22nd. The district will then hold multiple town hall meetings leading up to the Board of Education's vote in June. While I understand that this is an uneasy time in our district, I wanted to make sure to state that the educational and emotional well-being of students, families, and staff members continue to be the focus of our daily work here at Kerby.
Kerby is an amazing school due to the students, teachers, staff members, and families that walk our halls each day. It is important to know that regardless of the decision that the Board of Education ultimately makes, the teachers who currently work at Kerby will continue to educate the children of our community, regardless of the physical walls in which they reside. This is not to discount how special Kerby is, and how much we all love being here each and every day, but the ingredients of a great education are still going to be in tact: great families, great kids, and great teachers.
Feel free to reach out to me at any time via email, phone, or in person if you have any
questions at all.
Take care,
Dr. Delgado

The Red Glasses Movement
The Red Glasses Movement is coming to Kerby Elementary! The Red Glasses Movement was started in honor of a child from Michigan named Audrey who passed away unexpectedly in January, 2018. Since then thousands of people have donned her signature red glasses and have been inspired to see the world through her eyes. Audrey lived BOLDLY - she smashed past every expectation and every challenge. She wanted to do everything herself and in her own way. She loved BIG. Audrey gave the best hugs, high fives, and fist bumps. You couldn't be around her without smiling - her joy was contagious.
Please consider a donation to help us PASS ON her messages of bravery, joy, compassion, inclusion, and more. We will be having an assembly highlighting this bravery and passion this month, and we need your help to raise the money to get glasses for every student and teacher. . Please consider donating to our paypal account - every little bit helps! Be sure to select friends and family.
