World Thinking Day - a region event
For ALL Girl Guides and their families
Wednesday 22 February 2017
The date is significant as it is the birthday of both our Founder, Lord Robert Baden Powell AND his wife, Olave, Lady Baden Powell who was World Chief Guide from 1918 till her death in 1977. Celebrated every year since 1926, World Thinking Day is a day of international friendship, speaking out on issues that affect girls and young women, and fundraising for ten million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world.
The World Thinking Day Fund in 2017, will help support emerging Girl Guide and Girl Scout associations in Africa and Asia.
ACT & SE NSW Region - World Thinking Day
Families and units might like to bring a rug/chairs as well as their picnic.
We have the area in front of Stage 88 booked for our event.
There will be a short ceremony, a couple of activities/games (from the Thinking Day Challenge badge) and time for everyone to enjoy a picnic with their Guide friends and families. The Challenge Badge can be found on the web: https://www.wagggs.org/en/resources/world-thinking-day-2017-grow-activity-pack/ Guides will probably do some of the Challenge in their guide unit meetings, as well as at this region event, but will also need to do something towards it at home before their badge is presented.
This is the first of a number of special events being held in 2017 to celebrate Girl Guiding in Canberra since 1927 - that's 90 years!!
