Director's Message,

Dear AISM Community,


Welcome to the 1st Monday in May!


Like the last chapter of a good book the year is almost over. What a year it has been. We have accomplished all we set out to do and more! The reaccreditation of AISM through Middle States Association through 2029! The refurbishment of the Library, the adding of Coding Classes schoolwide and robotics in the Middle School. The curriculum review of Math with an investment in a new curriculum, that was recommended by AERO Faculty- Erma Anderson who will be on campus in September for a three day training. Also, the hiring of a Special Education Teacher and a Elementary Counselor beginning in the fall 2023. See their introductions below.


What a week we had last week! The finalist for the new AISM Director beginning 2024/2025 were on campus and at the US Embassy for meetings and interviews. The faculty, staff and students all had an opportunity to participate in the process as well as parents. Mr. Kilu - AISM Board Chair and the AISM Board members will finalize their decision for the new Director appointment by the end of this week and it will be formally announced in our June Newsletter.


Also, the Liberian students who were selected to test and interview for the AISM Scholarship were on campus this past week. The selected students interviewed with faculty, parents, board members and the AISM Student Council. The Scholarship Committee will meet this week to review all application materials and the recipients of the scholarship will be informed on Friday, May 5th.

Newly Hired Elementary Counselor - Beginning August 2023

My name is Fateen Abdel-baaith, and I will be serving as the Curriculum Specialist/Elementary School Counselor for the 2023-2024 school year. I believe working with children is not a profession but rather a PASSION and one of the most rewarding careers.


I earned both my Master’s Degree and Education Specialist Degree in school psychology and have over 14 years of diverse experience in counseling, evaluating, and educating children of all ages from different cultural backgrounds. I am increasingly interested in positive psychology and always seeking new ways to expand my knowledge through reading and research. Please wish me good luck as I pursue my doctorate in International Psychology this Fall.


“I live to travel,” is my mantra. I consider myself to be a world explorer, traveling to over 30 countries and have learned the importance of appreciating each unique culture. In addition to my fondness for travel, I greatly enjoy reading, assembling puzzles, rollerblading, hiking, and most outdoor activities. I even tried out for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Track & Field. I am excited to be a part of the AISM International community of teachers and leaders and quite eager to meet all students and their families. It warms my heart to know that I will continue to impact someone's life in a meaningful way and like Maya Angelou once wrote, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

Newly Hired Special Education Teacher - Beginning August 2023

My name is Amal Iskandarani. I am from Northern Lebanon. I relocated to Liberia since September 2022. I hold a Bachelor’s degree and a Teaching Diploma in Special

Education from Saint Joseph University - Beirut and in June 2023. I will complete my Master’s

degree in Special Education from the same university.


Currently, I am in process of completing my Certification in Family Coaching from Canada. I have worked as a Special Educator Teacher with students who learn differently. I also conduct trainings for teachers in order to provide them with assistance in lesson planning, that respects the abilities and struggles of all students in their classes. I love learning new languages. Note that I speak Arabic, French and English.


What is your favorite meal?

Pizza.

What do students refer to you as?

How would you describe your cultural identity?

I belong to the middle east culture. I was born and raised in Lebanon.

What is your favorite hobby?

Watching psychological and mystery series and reading books about psychology.

What is your favorite travel destination?

London the city of fog and Italy for the love of pizza.
