Engage. Educate. Empower.
Volume 1 ~ Issue 1 ~ Week of July 17, 2022
Welcome back, Viking Students & Families!!
My name is Sasha Scott and I am proud to be your new principal at Mar Vista Academy! As I enter my 18th year in education, I bring a wealth of diverse experiences that will serve to bring our community together and continue to make our students successful. I look forward to going on this journey with all of you! Words cannot express how excited I am to start the 2022-2023 school year! I met many of you at our 7th grade orientation last week, so I am really looking forward to meeting the rest of our Vikings this week!
This is a weekly newsletter that I plan to send out on Sunday afternoon each week to all Mar Vista Academy families. It will contain important information and updates, as well as pictures from events on our campus, so I encourage you to read it each Sunday to stay informed. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
As we begin the school year, I want to bring to your attention some important information and protocols PRIOR to the start of the school, so that your children can start without delay!
Registration
Every year, your children must be registered regardless if you are a current or new student. If you have not completed your children’s registrations, you must do this now before the first day of school. Our registrar, Ms. Yen, is able to assist you from 7:30am – 3:00pm (Lunch hour is 12-1pm). If you still need to register, click HERE to review the process.
If you plan on not attending MVA, it will help us tremendously if you email our registrar, Ms. Yen, at monica.yen@sweetwaterschools.org. You can also call her with any questions or concerns at (619) 628-5107.
Immunizations
Masking Protocols
After consultation with medical professionals as well as reviewing state and local guidance, SUHSD will commence the 2022-2023 school year with the following masking protocols:
- When indoors, vaccinated staff and all students are strongly recommended to wear a face mask.
- Unvaccinated staff and adult visitors must wear masks when in the presence of others indoors.
- In classrooms with immunocompromised staff or students, we are asking the classroom communities to please support each other by wearing masks when indoors.
An exception where staff or students will be required to wear masks at this point, is after they are returning to school following exposure to COVID. These additional protocols are our best way to ensure we can keep our students and staff on campus and engaged in learning this school year.
COVID Testing
SUHSD encourages all students to test regularly to ensure everyone’s safety. All students and staff are being asked to test prior to returning to the 2022-2023 school year. Please test on Tuesday, July 19th and report only positive results. If you need COVID tests, please come by the main office between the hours of 7:30am-4pm on Monday, July 18th or Tuesday, July 19th to pick up test kits from SDSU-NIH staff.
The district has partnered with the SDSU-NIH Communities Fighting COVID Testing Program, which will provide free testing kits for your entire family. While testing is encouraged, students who participate in athletics, ASB, VALOR (Before/After School Programs), VAPA and extra-curricular clubs will be REQUIRED to test in order to participate. Click HERE for more information. Click HERE to sign up for the SDSU testing program. If you have already signed up last year, there is no need to sign up again as your enrollment will be rolled over to this school year. If you do not want to participate in the SDSU program, you will still need to provide proof of negative test for the activities that require testing. You will need to submit a test from a verified health organization such as your health provider, local pharmacies or other public agencies that provide COVID testing.
Free Universal Lunch
As with the last two years, all students will be able to participate in the free universal program offered in California. This means that your children will be able to eat one (1) free breakfast and lunch every day. Although meals are free, we ask that you still complete this form HERE as it helps to provide the school with additional funding.
