Weekly WOW - January 5, 2019

East Vincent Elementary School

GREETINGS FROM MS. SEELEY

We started the year by setting goals, strengthening classroom communities, and reviewing EV Go CATS expectations. Be sure to check our Twitter page or the bottom left of our school webpage to view some of the meaningful activities.

SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM (SWPBS)

During the month of January, we prepare for the installation of our new SWPBS student recognition system. Beyond CAT Cash, students will have opportunities to earn recognition for following Go CATS. More details will be shared soon about our new SWPBS student recognition systems. Many thanks to our EV Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) for gifting the new signage to our school.

JANUARY CAT CASH – WHOLE-SCHOOL REWARDS

Spend Cat Cash on extra recess on the last Friday of every month this year! The extra recess will last 15 minutes.

January (Vote): Use your Cat Cash to buy Go Cats East Vincent merchandise! Items and Cat Cash prices to be determined.

SAFETY DRILLS AND PLANS AT EV

During the month of January, we plan to have a fire drill and review our lockdown drill procedures with each grade level should we be at lunch or recess. As always, we'll have support from EV Police Department and the OJRSD Safety and Security Department during our drills.

THANK YOU

On Wednesday, January 9, we plan to recognize members of East Vincent Police Department and staff from the OJRSD Safety and Security Department for National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. The entire EV community is encouraged to wear blue and create notes of thanks for the people who help to keep us safe at EV.

GRADE 6 CATS AMBASSADORS

The student and staff spotlights written by our Grade 6 CATS Ambassadors will return next week.

SCHOOL EVENTS - UPDATES

As always, we keep our webpage calendar updated with school happenings such as assemblies, PTA meetings and events, and after-school activities. Please continue to visit our webpage calendar.

Two events are changed slightly from previous formats:

First, the annual science fair will continue to take place during the day with presentations and judging. Selected projects will advance to the Chester County Science Fair competition. Winners from EV will be announced at the end of the day on Friday, January 18, instead of at a nighttime event. Some projects will be on display at the STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics) Day event, where families can browse science fair projects and other STEAM-related designs.

Second, the annual spelling bee will continue to take place at EV. The spelling bee will take place in-house without a student advancing to the Chester County Spelling Bee. Due to family responses on surveys and in conversations, our community hopes to include new activities for students. Eliminating the staffing and registration costs for the spelling bee will allow us to explore new possibilities.
