Weekly Update
We had another great week at Elk Ridge! Students are finishing up Unit 4 in Math, learning, wrapping up informational writing, and learning about heart health in PE.
Please don’t forget to make your voice heard and turn in your February 8th ballot! Simply mail it - no stamp is needed - or drop it off at a designated ballot box location. Please remember that mailed ballots need to be postmarked by February 8th. To find a ballot box near you, go to https://www.piercecountywa.gov/334/Ballot-Drop-Boxes
Voter Turnout Contest
Our contest will continue through February 8th! Each classroom will be collecting voting stubs that students can bring in from their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, etc. after they have voted in the upcoming election. The class with the highest percentage of voting stubs returned will win an extra 15-minute recess and an ice cream party! Mrs. Carlson's class is currently in the lead! We will also have a drawing for an individual student prize so make sure students write their names on the stubs they bring in. This contest is meant to encourage voter turnout and ensure that people in our community use their voices in the upcoming election.
Food Drive
Our winners for the food drive were Mrs. Swanson's class and Mrs. Roggenkamp's class! Thank you again to everyone who donated to the Buckley Food Bank!
Kid's Heart Challenge
You may have seen an envelope from the American Heart Association. Elk Ridge is currently doing the Kids Heart Challenge (aka - Jump Rope for Heart). The link below will get you to the website where you can search for Elk Ridge Elementary (Mary Robbins) and sign up if you'd like to participate. Kids can sign up and participate by choosing a challenge to be kind or be active. They can also participate by completing Finn's mission and learning about heart health. Neither of those include donating. If you and your child do want to get donations, you can do that online or place checks in the envelope that was sent home. If you are using the envelope, please wait to send it to school until February 14th, the final day of the fundraiser.
Please contact Mrs. Robbins (mrobbins@whiteriver.wednet.edu) with any questions.
Thank you!
Volunteers
We are now able to welcome volunteers back into the building! If you are interested in volunteering at Elk Ridge, please fill out a Volunteer Application through our Frontline Hiring system. Specific information regarding volunteer requirements is available there.
Thank you, Ranger Families, for your partnership and support!
Ballots due Tuesday, February 8th
The February 8 election is right around the corner. For those who have not turned in their ballot, there is still time! Ballots are due by 8 pm on February 8, just drop it off at a designated ballot drop box near you. To find one, go here.
White River School District is asking our community to consider two levy renewals in the election. These levies directly support our students.
Proposition 1: an Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) replacement levy. This levy funds 15% of the district’s budget and continues funding for athletics, music, drama, clubs, early learning, Special Education, nurses, and mental health supports.
Proposition 2: a Capital levy, continues funding for the technology that our students and staff rely on in our schools. It also funds safety and facility updates at White River High School and roads and roofing repairs at schools throughout the district.
Learn more about these measures and what they mean for our students at https://bit.ly/Feb2022levies.
Reminders
- Please contact the office if there are any changes to your child's end of day transportation for the day.
- Please keep your child home when they are sick. Please call our office if they have been exposed to COVID so that we can follow up with our new test to stay protocol.Thank you!
- Please be mindful during arrival and drop-off times, whether you are on our campus or on a neighboring street. Our goal is for students to arrive and leave school safely each day! Please remember that drop off is not a place to park. If you are here early and want to wait until the bell rings to send your student out, please park in the parking lot rather than waiting in the drop off loop. Thank you!
