PCMS WEEKLY UPDATE

Week of November 9 - 14, 2015

Good afternoon families,

Wednesday we took great pride in thanking and recognizing our Veterans and active military personnel for their service to our country. We had over 140 guests join us for our 10th Annual Veterans Day Breakfast and assembly. Activities included breakfast, the National Anthem and God Bless America sung by our 7th/8th grade Honor Choir, an essay written and read by one of our students, and the playing of Taps and Amazing Grace. It ended with a fantastic message given by our guest speaker, Lieutenant Colonel Myles Perry. Earlier in the week, our 6th Grade Prelude Choir students were invited to sing at a Veterans celebration at the Iatan Power Plant, which was a great honor! Again, we want to thank everyone who came and shared their time with us and our students - another PCMS Proud Moment!!!

Pirate Privilege Program

This year we implemented the Pirate Privilege Program for all of our students. The goal of the program is to recognize students for exemplary behavior, work ethic, and academic achievement. Based on how students perform in these three areas, will determine if they are eligible to participate in various incentive opportunities throughout the year, including a trip to Worlds of Fun at the end of the year. There are three levels that students can participate in:

  1. Gold Level: All A, B, C's (allowed up to one C, but must have at least one A) AND, no ISS or OSS behavior incidents, AND used only 0-6 letters in their planner.
  2. Silver Level: All A, B, C's OR, used 7-12 letters AND, no more than 1 day ISS or no OSS.
  3. Orange Level: Has a D and/or F OR, used 13+ letters in their planner, AND more than 1 day ISS or OSS.

Levels can change at the middle and end of each quarter. If a student maintains Gold Level status throughout the year, they will attend a Worlds of Fun trip in May.

"Opt In" for Text Messages

Just a reminder that we are discontinuing the previously used Pirate Text Alert system and are moving to a new text notification system which requires you to "Opt In". This change was implemented in response to parent requests for more school notifications to be sent via text. In that regard, we are consolidating our communications so we can use the phone call and text options from our current School Messenger notification system. If you haven't yet opted in, simply text YES or OPTIN to 68453. You will then begin receiving text messages notifying you of inclement weather, safety alerts, school closings, and other important information impacting your school.
