This Week...

This week in World Cultures we will take a look at the African Continent. As a class we will attempt to understand how the geography of Africa has led to many of the current crises faced in sub-Saharan African nations today. Most scientists believe the origins of human life came from Africa and we will analyze how despite that sounding like an advantage it has actually led to many disadvantages.


Block 1 and 2

- Students will identify the geographical regions of Africa.

- Students will create a Political and Physical map of Africa.

- Students will compare/contrast the Pros and Cons of African Geography.

- Students will analyze how guns, germs, and steel have led to the current crises in Africa.

- Students will analyze how the north-south orientation of Africa has impacted civilization.

- Students will analyze primary and secondary sources from Ancient Africa.

- Students will develop and support a thesis statement about Ancient African culture.

Homework:

- Africa Map due Wednesday, September 30

- Africa Map quiz Wednesday, September 30 (can use Map on Quiz)

- Shape of Africa reading due Thursday, October 1




Block 4

- Students will identify the geographical regions of Africa.

- Students will create a Political and Physical map of Africa.

- Students will compare/contrast the Pros and Cons of African Geography.

- Students will analyze primary and secondary sources from Ancient Africa.

- Students will develop and support a topic sentence about Ancient African culture.
