Knightly Update October 18, 2020
Edition Vol 9 Issue 12
Good morning. We had a great start to the second quarter and it was very nice having our students back on campus. They have been doing a great job keeping their masks on, social distancing, following reminders, and abiding by all guidelines in general. I appreciate all that the students are doing to help us maintain the safest environment possible. Please remind your child that they must have their mask on as soon as they are on campus property. This includes walking to the campus from the parking lot, from their classroom to the parking lot at the end of the day, and on buses. Simply put, masks must be worn when on any form of CUSD property. Overall, I am pleased with the safety efforts of our students and I appreciate the diligence they exhibited this week.
On Wednesday, the Governing Board voted unanimously (5-0) to move ACP-Erie to the new high school located on Gilbert Road, just south of Ocotillo (Gilbert & Brooks Farm Rd). The Governing Board praised the accomplishments of our students and staff when making their decision and conveyed their excitement to see what the next chapter for ACP holds. As a result of this decision, all current ACP-Erie students in grades 9-11 will automatically move to the new location next year. Rest assured, information will be shared and several community meetings will be held throughout the year as we work on and prepare for this transition.
I had an opportunity to walk around the new school on Friday and it is simply awesome! There will be so many new opportunities for our students and community to enjoy, classes to offer, traditions to establish, and celebrations to hold, and I cannot wait to get to work. In next week's newsletter, meeting dates will be communicated where I, along with other staff, will share information about our new home, programs under consideration, and how to be a part of a school development site council that will focus on the collaborative development of policies and guidelines as we move into a new chapter of ACP history. This is the third time I have been involved in "building" a school or working through a major transition. Like all previous transitions, I will ensure input from families, students, and staff is heard, discussed and evaluated as decisions are made. I look forward to this adventure and I am excited to offer new opportunities to our current families and to those that reside within our school's new boundaries. I encourage families to set aside time to come to the initial meeting date and to consider being a part of the development council. Additional information and general structure will be shared next week.
Thanks again to our students for abiding by established standards. It is comforting to see our safety rules being followed appropriately and with fidelity. Keep it up, Knights. As always, if you have any questions, please contact me. Enjoy your day and have a great week. Go, KNIGHTS!!
