A Note from the FAB President
I heard the groundhog predicted five more months of fine arts at Cedarburg High School! This time of year marks some of the busiest months for our fine artists and educators.
In January we experienced concerts, art shows, and the beginnings of our musical theater production, Anything Goes. As we look to February, students will continue to prepare for upcoming winter and spring activities while FAB swings into full gear organizing its major fundraising event, Art in the Burg.
If you've never attended Art in the Burg, you should definitely try to get there this year. We have 75+ carefully selected artists from throughout the region. Admission is only $5 and the proceeds go directly back to support our students and fine arts departments. We are also looking for adult and student volunteers to help set up and support a variety activities during the day. We rely heavily on the kindness and dedication of our volunteers throughout the year and this event would not be possible without your help. Many hands make light work!
Read on to learn about the recent accomplishments of the talented students and their teachers here at Cedarburg High School.
Yours in the Arts,
Caryn Esten, President

Art In The Burg UPDATE: "Uncle Art" (in the Burg) Needs You!
Don’t Let The Cedarburg Fine Arts Departments Down!
March is a busy month for all of us in Cedarburg. Student activities (and driving to student activities), helping our children navigate academic challenges, family and work obligations, as well as marking time until the snow finally melts keep us all pretty active. But if you’re looking for something productive and fun to do while you wait for winter to finally end, have we got the opportunity for you!
Art in the Burg (AIB) is Saturday March 14th and there are several easy ways you can support our fine arts students at the Fine Arts Boosters' premier fundraising event. You Can:
- Attend. AIB is a LOT of fun and features 80 different artists who sell their original artwork. If you’re looking for a unique gift or addition to your home, this is the event to find things you can’t get anywhere else! Everything from paintings to jewelry to purses, lawn ornaments, pottery and more. You can even buy a crown made out of cutlery, if you’re so inclined. (Or at least post a photo of yourself wearing it to social media.)
- Bid in the Silent Auction. Each of the artists have donated an original piece of artwork for the AIB silent auction. This is a great way to support the CHS fine arts programs and possibly get a bargain on a beautiful work of art.
- Like and Share us on Social Media. Have you seen our Facebook and Instagram pages? You can visit our pages to see profiles of the artists who are attending. Also mark yourself as Going, and then Share our Art In the Burg 2020 Facebook Event. And every person who shares our Facebook page will receive the warm, fuzzy feeling of a job well done!
- Sign up to Volunteer. To make Art in the Burg a successful event, we need your help. Even a few hours would be extremely useful. If you haven’t volunteered for the Fine Arts Boosters this year, now is your chance. Volunteers get free admission to the event and student volunteers also receive community service hours! Sign up on our SignUp Genius. Best of all, you might even get a donut out of it! (If you buy one from the concession stand.)
Shown below are just a small sample of the great art to be found at AIB! Click here for even more: Art in the Burg Website - with 2020 Artist Gallery

Grants & Scholarships UPDATE
FAB Grants in January
FAB is proud to have provided four grants in January to the CHS Fine Arts departments. The grants included funds to purchase the following items: cases for percussion instruments; a new bass and xylophone for the band; and materials to build a rotating set/stage platform for future stage productions.
FAB Summer Camp Scholarships
The Fine Arts Boosters are happy to provide summer arts camp scholarships to 9th-11th grade Fine Arts students -- Band, Chorale Arts, Drama and Visual Arts -- who will be returning to CHS for the 2020-21 school year and whose families are FAB supporting members in good standing.
This year, all applications should be completed online by accessing the Summer Scholarship Application link provided here at FAB Summer Scholarship by no later than Friday, April 17, end of day. Teachers can refer students to the summer camp scholarship application form on the FAB website, but will not accept applications themselves.
NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
The scholarship application requires students to provide information about the camp they have chosen, so start researching opportunities now. (Please see application for additional requirements.)

CPAC UPDATE
Next Up at the CPAC: Ricky Nelson Remembered on March 20
Ricky Nelson Remembered, a unique multi media event featuring the live music of Ricky
Nelson, makes a stop at the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center on Friday, March 20 at 7:30 pm! The show celebrates the life of America’s original “Teen Idol” who was tragically killed in a New
Year’s Eve plane crash nearly 35 years ago.
But, this is NOT your typical tribute show! It is performed by Ricky’s own twin sons,
Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, who will showcase their father’s many musical hits, including
“Hello Mary Lou,” “Travelin’ Man” and “Garden Party.” The show also features never
before seen big screen video footage of the Nelson family with interviews from
celebrities influenced by Ricky Nelson.
Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, the identical twin sons of Rock’n’Roll Hall of Famer Ricky
Nelson and grandsons of ‘50s TV icons Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, are themselves huge
music talents. With their rock band NELSON, Matthew and Gunnar have had five Top 40
Billboard hits, four #1 MTV videos and have sold over 6.5 million albums worldwide.
Don’t miss a chance to stroll down Rock’n’Roll memory lane on Friday, March 20, while
tickets are still available!
Go to www.cedarburgpac.com or call 262-376-6161 to purchase tickets now.

Not Too Late to Advertise Your Business in CHS Arts Programs
FAB invites your business to advertise in the programs we print for the students' performances at Cedarburg High School; many Cedarburg area businesses have taken advantage of this offer over the years. Advertising in our programs for the school year is a great bargain for a one-time price and a wonderful way to support our students. The programs we print for students’ performances throughout the year reach a large and varied audience, including those who attend the instrumental and vocal concerts, as well as the plays and musical and visual arts events. During the last school year, we distributed over 4,500 programs at CHS arts events.
As an added bonus, we will link your company’s website to the Cedarburg Fine Arts Boosters site (www.chsfab.org) to maximize your advertising reach. Here are this year’s planned events:
Three performances of the fall play
Four performances of the musical
Two instrumental performances – Holiday and Spring concerts
Three choir performances – Fall, Holiday, Spring concerts
Art Fair
Two Jazz Band concerts
Vocal Jazz concert
With over 500 seats in the CPAC, Cedarburg High School Fine Arts concerts, plays, and musicals are attended by thousands of community members each school year.
We welcome your support for the 2019-2020 school year. Contact Jan Batty at rbatty@wi.rr.com for more information.
