St. Luke Weekly Memo
March 15 - 22, 2018
Fifth Sunday of Lent - March 18
Sunday's Gospel Reading
John 12:20-33
Jesus teaches his disciples about the way in which he will be glorified by God, and a voice from heaven is heard to affirm this teaching.
Family Connection
Family life is often a balancing act in which we prioritize and attend to a variety of competing needs. We learn the value of putting others’ needs ahead of our own. In family life we also learn that when we make personal sacrifices to serve others, we gain so much more than we may have lost.
As you gather as a family, talk about how important it is to your family life to gladly serve one another. Ask each person to consider the last time that another family member asked for help. What was your response? Did you cheerfully try to honor the request, or did you ask “Why me?” Read Sunday's Gospel, John 12:20-33. How do you think Jesus would want us to respond when someone in our family asks for help? Invite each family member to make a commitment for the next week to try to respond cheerfully to requests for help. Pray together, asking God’s help with this commitment. Pray the Prayer of Saint Ignatius of Loyola.

Conferences
On Wednesday, March 21 all St. Luke teachers will be hosting 3-Way Conferences. Some teachers will be holding 3-Way Conferences to provide an opportunity for families, students, and teachers to meet to communicate about the student's learning. Some teachers will be holding Student Led Conferences. The Student Led Conferences provide families with an opportunity to see learning activities that the students do in class. Families will also have an opportunity to connect with their child's teacher(s) to celebrate learning, share ideas for next steps, and any necessary communication. When booking student led conferences you will schedule a time and have 30-40 minutes to visit all stations.
To book a conference time with your child's teacher please go here and use the password code nsqkh.
WE Team News
On Monday, March 19, the WE Team will be hosting a "WE Are Silent" Day. WE Team students will be placing tape over their mouths in order to remove their privilege of speaking for the whole day. This movement is designed to help bring awareness to those in the world suffering from discrimination and have lost their right to speak and be listened to. WE Team students will be giving classroom presentations prior to this event to help St. Luke students understand the purpose of this movement.
Donations for Apples
Thank you to one parent family who donated apples to our school community. We are looking for apple donations or financial donations to purchase apples as they are a popular snack with students.
