WHES Highlights
September 9, 2022
It was fun to see so many students in their favorite team shirts/jerseys for spirit day today!
We are excited to launch the Apex Fun Run next week! Watch for pledge packets to come home soon and see more information below in regards to events and the Fun Run schedule for 9/22. This event is the biggest PTA-sponsored fundraiser in which we raise funds that support our students and teachers with things like teacher grants to supply needs for classrooms, capital improvement funds for building-needs to support learning and teaching, and family events and activities to promote engagement and partnerships. We can't wait to see our students lace up their tennis shoes and enjoy this event!
Check out and like/follow our new school Facebook page - Woodmen Hills Elementary School (https://fb.me/WHESTornadoes)! We want to spread the word of all the good things happening and needed to spread our social media wings to do so!
Please be sure to continue to check the Family Handbook for complete details of all day-to-day systems and procedures. Read the information below carefully and don't hesitate to call our school office with any questions or needs at 719.495.5500.
Have a great weekend,
Bethany Stegman & Amanda Bower

Annual Forms - please complete these ASAP!
Family Homework - we have 3, annual forms that need to be completed ASAP for your student(s)...
- Emergency Contact Information form: complete 1 form per family from any device. In an effort to keep your emergency contact information as up-to-date as possible, please fill out the form below. Only one form needs to be completed per family at Woodmen Hills Elementary School. This information is verified and/or updated in our Student Information System (PowerSchool) to ensure we have up-to-date contact information for all students. This information is not used in any other way or uploaded in any other system. If you need to notify us of any legal custody paperwork regarding your child(ren) and/or any current parent/guardians or emergency contacts, please call the main office at 719.495.5500.
- D49 Annual Health Information form: follow the link for directions to complete 1 form per student in your parent portal. Once logged in to your Parent Portal, you will access the form to complete the steps detailed. The form needs to be completed on a computer rather than a phone or tablet. If you need access to a computer, please call the school office for assistance.
- Learner Profile form: follow the link for directions to complete this WITH each of your students in your parent portal. As we continue on the EmpowerFZ journey, a next step is creating a Learner Profile for each student who attends a school in the Falcon Zone. The Learner Profile is created based on student data including assessments, a multiple intelligence survey, and input from your child as a learner. The Learner Profile will be utilized to personalize learning as we propel students to understand themselves as a learner and take hold of the empowerment within themselves. We need your help! Parents are a vital partner in supporting the development of a Learner Profile for your child as you will work together to take a survey in your Parent Portal WITH your child.

Health Information
Hi, I’m Shelly Duran and I am the nurse at Woodmen Hills. I look forward to working with your students! Here are a few reminders to start the school year.
Medications - All medications, including over-the-counter medications, require a medication form completed by your child’s physician. Student’s may NOT bring medication to school or self-administer any medication. All medication forms and action plans can be found here: https://www.d49.org/domain/1284
Immunization Requirements - Colorado law requires all students to be immunized against certain communicable diseases. For more information regarding required immunizations and how to complete a non-medical immunization exemption form can be found here: https://www.d49.org/domain/261. (If you are filing a non-medical exemption, please complete the online module, print and sign the exemption form, and return to the health room.)
Illness Guidelines - Falcon School District 49 is following the Illness Guidelines from the Colorado Department of Public Health & Children’s Hospital Colorado. Please refer to these guidelines and keep sick students home. These guidelines are linked below.
Phones in the Classroom - Students are not permitted to use classroom phones or personal phones to contact parents in the event of illness. Students must come through the health room to call parents in order for the absence to be excused.

Federal regulations play a direct role in setting the price of school meals and D49 is required to match government meal reimbursement rates by charging for meals. Updating our rates this year is a difficult, but necessary adjustment to continue providing meals in our challenging economy.
Specials Information / Schedules
Kindergarten and First Grade:
Kindergarten and first-grade students engage in 5 specials, including Art, Music, PE, PBL/Technology, and Library. Specials occur on a daily schedule. Students will have the same special on the same day of the week.
Second through Fifth Grade:
Second through fifth-grade students engage in 4 specials, including Art, Music, PE, and PBL/Technology. Specials occur daily, on a 5-day, ABCD, rotating basis. Students will have the same special for 5 school days in a row (i.e. art for 5 school days, then PE for 5 school days).
The Specials schedule is always available in the WHES Highlights sent weekly via email - the specials rotations link is for all grades, K-5th, and the ABCD monthly rotation calendars are for 2nd-5th grades.
Art Class Information: Students often use materials such as watercolors, watercolor pencils, tempera and acrylic paint, and oil pastels during art classes. While using these materials brings new discoveries and masterpieces, it can also bring a concern for not washing out of clothing, etc. Please consider having your child(ren) wear 'older' clothing items on art days.
PE Information: Students are active during PE class! Proper footwear supports safety and ability to move and engage in a variety of activities. Please ensure your child(ren) wear tennis shoes/sneakers on PE days.
