News and Updates from Burton Street Elementary
March 2023
March brings in one of the longer months of the school year, but it is full of fun! Each March, the building comes together for March Madness Bingo. Each classroom has a Bingo board and each morning, live on the announcements a ball is spun and chosen. The top three classes to earn Bingo win a special prize! Ask your children how their class is doing!
Here is a snap shot of the fun: All students will go to the High School for a Sneak Peek of Beauty and the Beast on March 8 and we are also teaming up with the Middle School for Spirit Week the week of March 20th (details below). On March 23, we will welcome Varsha Bajaj, a New York Times best selling author, to Burton Street to meet with all of our students. Varsha Bajaj is the bestselling author of the middle grade novel, Thirst, Count Me In, and Abby Spencer goes to Bollywood, which was shortlisted for the Cybils Award and included in the Spirit of Texas Reading program. She also wrote the picture books The Home Builders (a Dolly Parton Imagination library selection) and This is Our Baby, Born Today (a Bank Street Best Book). She grew up in Mumbai, India, and when she came to the United States to obtain her master’s degree, her adjustment to the country was aided by her awareness of the culture through books.
For those of you with a little one that turns 5 on or before December 1, 2023 - don't forget about kindergarten registration, taking place March 27-March 30. Contact Debbie Richer in the office if you need an evening appointment.
Let's hope that March brings us lots of sunshine!
Thank you for your support and partnership,

Mobile Planetarium Visit - Thank You PTA!
Thanks to PTA funding, the BOCES traveling planetarium came to Burton Street on February 7th. All third grade classes attended presentations and this aligned perfectly to the current Wit and Wisdom module which focuses on Outer Space. The planetarium is coming again for three full days in May for all other grade levels to experience. The fourth graders will be studying Myth Making in Wit and Wisdom at this time and the visit “Greek Myths in the Sky” will align very well with their learning!
