Architecture

Greek Architecture is known for its columns. There are three types of columns: Doric, Ionic,

and Corinthian. Other types of Greek art include pottery, sculptures, and paintings. Every city state had a temple that was dedicated to a specific god. They went there to worship and make sacrifices. Some leaders like Pericles and Alexander the Great spread the Greek architecture through out Europe.

We see Greek influence in architecture today in important buildings. The White house, Capital Building, Supreme Court,and the Lincoln Memorial all have columns that show Greek influence.

Government

Government functions in ancient Greece were Monarchy, Oligarchies, Tyrannies, and Direct democracy where everyone could vote their opinions and laws. The leaders that were expected to be citizens were gods, and kings, you had to be 18 to vote. Frequently the leaders change, and if so they would change in 21 months the changes were made by vote. There was slavery in ancient Greece but they were born into slavery so they didn't have a choice. The wars that occurred were the battle of the Peleponnesin, Persian.

You have to be 18 to vote, we have a democracy, We have term limits (president holds office for 4 years, he is limited 2 years).

Sports

The freeman who spoke Greece were the ones who played sports in ancient Greece. Some sports that they played were boxing, chariot racing, wrestling, running. Men watched sports in ancient Greece and un married women, government officials. Athletic competition developed in ancient Greece, because of beliefs, and honor gods.

We have the Olympics, we have many of the same sports (boxing, wrestling, discus, etc....)

Philosophy

Some philosophers in ancient Greece Thales, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and Pythagoras. Socrates- Socratic method, Plato- the Republic, Aristotle- Politics, Archimedes invented PI & other war machines. Greek philosophers about life tried to answer Math, Science,History,and Rhetoric. Medicine (to heal).

We still see Dr's. ,, Use the Hippocratic Oath,. We use some Math skills today like PI, Pythagorean there & still study Geometry.

Mythology

People in ancient Greece used storytelling to explain the world around them by Greeks used stories and Myths to explain the unexplained. Some Mythological heroes of ancient Greece, Iturcles, Odysseus, Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, Apelle, Athena, Arcs, Hera, Nike. A Apollodorus of Athens. According to the ancient Greece, people went to the underworld when they died.

We still study Mythology, movies: Hercules, Percy , Jackson.
