January 23, 2018- PTA General Meeting / Parent Skyward Session @ 6:30 PM
On Tuesday, January 23 our PTA will have their PTA General Meeting at 6:30 PM in the CTMS SAC. The PTA meeting will be very brief, followed by Skyward training from the GCISD Technology Department. This training will help with looking up your students grades, missing assignments, notifications, teacher access, teacher emails, and other Skyward pertinent information. Click on the link below to sign up in advance. This will give our technology department an estimate of those planning to attend.
January 23rd- 7th Grade TECC Field Trip (2nd Period)
7th Graders will be walking over to the Technology Education and Career Center on Thursday, January 25th in the morning. This will be an opportunity for students to explore programs such as automotive technology, health careers, culinary arts, journalism and more to prepare them for 8th grade course selection. Some of our 8th grade elective classes are prerequisites for classes that are offered at TECC for when they get to high school. 2nd period teachers gave out permission slips, they were due back to teachers last Friday.
January 26th - CTMS Cheerleader Information Meeting (Wolf Time)
Current CTMS 6th & 7th grade students interested in trying out to be a CTMS cheerleader should attend the informational student meeting on Friday, January 26, in the library during Wolf Time. Please take roll, then allow students who are interested and fit the criteria to report to the library.
VALOR Applications- Due Feb. 26 (Available on Feb. 12)
Applications for VALOR (Vanguard Association of Learning, Observation, and Reflection) will be coming out in February. VALOR is a group of innovative teachers that commit to reading, learning, observing, and reflecting together. If accepted you will have the opportunity to visit classrooms all over the district as well as be observed by your peers based on group and personal goals and receive individualized feedback from an instructional coach. Following is specific information on the application process:
Applications (google form) will go out February 12 in an email from Dr. Newell and due by Feb. 26 at 5 pm. The VALOR team will score based on a rubric and on input from campus principals
A group will be selected to move on to the interview portion and if you make it, you will be contacted by a VALOR team member to set up a time for the interview at your campus either during your conference or after school
You will be contacted by Dr. Newell with the final decision
We hope to invite about 24-28 people to our next class of VALOR
For more information, please visit our web page, ask a former VALOR teacher, or contact Melanie Gonzales (melanie.gonzales@gcisd.net).
“It takes courage to be introspective about your craft as a teacher.” - Dr. Suzanne Newell
Your journey begins with one step. Consider applying to be a part of the vanguard and taking that first step and finding that courage!
Housekeeping
- Please be conscious and of the time each class period, as we are experiencing a high occurrence of teachers letting students out late. This disrupts the start of class for your colleagues and is a bad practice in general.
- Be sure you have copied your information from your staff page (website). It will not roll over to the new system. This happens in February (TBD).
- Ilia will be sending out Skyward information about citizenship, grade changes, and finding drop students.
