Attendance: Every Minute Matters
Ms. Bermudez -Gonzalez and Ms. Saenz
At Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH), we believe that it’s an entire community’s responsibility to help equip and empower students to grow into adults who are ready to lead with heart. We also know how challenging it can be to create intentional time and space to help grow students’ leadership skills and prepare them for success. The truth is, it’s never too early (or late) to start, and we are here to help!
Your child’s school believes in the importance of establishing an environment where every student
feels valued. Capturing Kids Hearts and Lloyd and Dolly Bentsen Elementary will be working together to build a high-performing school culture where students know they are loved and are challenged to grow.
Librarian: Mr. J. Guerrero
The Bentsen Library is happy to welcome back every student and kick off the school year with reading and reading incentives. This year we plan to take all top readers to the Main Event for the end of year celebration. We are also planning to have a Magician for our first AR Celebration. We encourage all students to do their best in reading and meeting their goal. We look forward to many students improving their reading skills and being successful scholars.

When To Keep Your Child Home
There will be times when it is difficult to tell when your child is too ill to go to school. Like adults, children have different tolerances for discomfort and illness. Even with a common cold, some are able to function fine while others are miserable.
You should NOT send your child to school when they have these symptoms:
- Elevated temperature of 100 or greater
Child must be fever free for 24 hours (without fever reducing medication) to return to school
- Persistent cough
- Vomiting, nausea, or severe abdominal pain
- Repeated diarrhea
- Red, inflamed or discharging eyes (conjunctivitis/"pink eye")
- Suspected scabies, impetigo, acute skin rashes, eruptions, any skin lesion in the weeping stage, or any other infectious childhood condition
- Lethargic behavior
If your child is coughing continuously, he or she may not be able to concentrate, and may disrupt others in the class. A day of rest at home combined with lots of fluids speeds recovery.
If you decide to send your child to school when he or she is on the “borderline” of being ill, it is a good idea to call the school nurse or send a note to the teacher.
Be sure to let the school know where you can be contacted in case your child’s condition worsens.
If your child complains of headaches, stomachaches or frequently does not feel well, it is advisable to consult your physician.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your campus nurse for assistance.
District Technology Department
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress authorized spending that allowed schools to serve free meals for all students. Those funds were not authorized to continue for the 2023-2024 school year. As a result, Sharyland ISD must return to charging for school meals and offering free and reduced-price meals based on student eligibility.
Sharyland will distribute household letters and applications to the households of the children in the district about eligibility benefits. Families are encouraged to complete the Application for Free and Reduced-Price School Meals, also available on the child nutrition webpage. Meal applications are also available at our CNP office and campuses. Certain campuses are eligible to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). The CEP is a federally funded option that allows all students to eat breakfast and lunch during the school day for free. Please see our Child Nutrition webpage for more details.
