## Highlights from last week....

I hope you all had a great week! We were busy learning in our classroom!

In Reader's Workshop, we worked on how readers think while they read. We used our schema as we read our books. We also learned how reader's make connections while they read. To demonstrate this skill we read Robert Munsch's book, "Show and Tell" and made our own personal connections with the story. Please see the video below.

In phonics, we focused on rhyming, word families and short vowels. We are very close to mastering these skills, but our short vowels still need some work. The "e", "i" and "u" are still tricky to many of our friends.

In Math, we worked on number bonds and number sentences. We focused on subtracting or "breaking numbers apart" this week. We focused on number stories and worked on acting them out, writing the sentence and creating a number bond to match the sentence.

In Science, we began our month long unit on life cycles. We continued to focus on butterflies. We read some non-fiction books and compared them to some fiction books that we have read. We created a model to help us remember the life cycle a butterfly. Please see the video below.

In Social Studies, we concentrated on identifying sequential actions, such as first, next and last in stories and use them describe the life cycle of the butterfly.

In our Second Step program, we will continue to learn about our own feelings and how they can change.

We started our author study on Robert Munsch. We read several of his books and discussed the similarities and differences of each of his books. We are were able to make text to self and text to text connections during our readings.

## A peek at our learning this week....

We are going to be busy this week in kindergarten.

In Reader's Workshop, we will be working on how readers think while they read. We will be using our schema as we read our books. The children have been given personal book marks with the strategies listed on them. They are doing such a great job using it as a resource while reading.

In phonics, we will focus on short vowels.

In Math, we will be working on number bonds and number sentences. We will be focusing on subtracting or "breaking numbers apart" this week. We will focus on number stories and work on acting them out, writing the sentence and creating a number bond to match the sentence.

In Science, we will continue our month long unit on life cycles. We will focus on the life cycle of a chicken this week. We will read some non-fiction books and compare them to some fiction books that we have read. We will create a model to help us remember the life cycle a chicken.

In Social Studies, we will really concentrate on identifying sequential actions, such as first, next and last in stories and use them describe the life cycle of the chicken.

In our Second Step program, we will continue to learn about our own feelings and how they can change.

We are going to continue our author study on Robert Munsch. We will read several of his books and discuss the similarities and differences of each of his books. Now that we have read several books from several different authors, we are going to try and make text to self and text to text connections during our readings.

## Sanders Street T shirts and Sweatshirts

A purple order form went home with your child regarding T shirts and sweatshirts. The deadline for ordering is April 3. You can send your orders in earlier than April 3 if you would like.

## Change of Clothes

Please be aware that due to the warmer weather, we will be going outside as much as we can during recess. The playground will be wet. Please send in a change of clothes for your child. I will change out the clothes that I currently have for them when I receive the new ones from home. Also, if you send your child in to school with boots, please be sure to send in a pair of sneakers or shoes to change into. Our friends are coming in from recess soaking wet and they have nothing to change into. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
