Big picture

September Phoenix Award - Evangeline Honan

Evangeline is a thoughtful, reliable, and accepting member of the Flex community. She brings a positive attitude along with empathy and compassion into her conversations and relationships, consistently demonstrating resilience and leadership to those around her. Evangeline is engaged and attentive in her classes, and provides a great example for her peers. She is willing to try new things in class, works hard to ask questions and advocate for help, and is known for her clever insight. Evangeline is a rock star, and we are happy to have her here at Flex.

Flexgiving Returns to Flex!

After a few years of being on hold, we are happy to invite our Flex Families back into the building for Flexgiving! Flexgiving is our annual potluck feast celebrated with students, families, staff, and friends. In the coming week, each student will sign up to bring a favorite Thanksgiving dish in on Wednesday, November 23. (Students can advocate for help in purchasing necessary ingredients.) We typically begin eating around 12:30, and we hope to see you all there!

Skating at Kevin Bell Arena

For the next few weeks, Flex students will be heading to Kevin Bell Arena for our PE activity on Wednesday afternoons. The rink is very cold, so please send your student to school with appropriate cold weather clothing, such as gloves, hats, and coats. We have items available for students to borrow if they forget them. Thank you!

Picture Retakes

Flex Digital Citizenship

As we return to our classrooms after so much time spent with online learning, the staff here at Flex have noticed a significant increase in distracted cell phone and technology use by our students. Part of our mission here at the school is to help students learn to live "adult lives," and with that comes the responsibility to act responsibly, especially in regards technology. Teaching students when it is appropriate to be using cell phones and be on non-educational content is the first step in this process. We are implementing new strategies to address this situation in our classrooms, and plan to employ community circles to facilitate discussions between students and staff. We realize that cell phone use, especially text messages, have become part of everyday life, and we hope to help students learn when and where it's appropriate to check them. You can help your student while they are in class by calling the office to leave messages and as a way to contact them in case of emergencies. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns, and thank you for your support!
