WBMS Friday Notes
February 19-22
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
Highlights from the week include the Junior Achievement trip for many of our 7th graders who learned what it is like to work within a budget and the highly anticipated tour of AHS for our 8th graders!
Our School Governance Council (SGC) has been hard at work on our school strategic plan and has recently gathered data to check our progress. I hope you will take a moment to look over our Monitoring Tool to reconnect with our school goals and our growth. These are five year goals developed to meet the needs of our school community.
Our SGC plays a critical role in the success of our school by working with school leadership and the community to help determine the long-term direction of the school, design innovative solutions to increase academic achievement, and serve as school ambassadors to the local community. Elections will be held next month.
Enjoy the weekend and stay dry!

Webb Bridge Celebrates
Welcome Mr. Forti!
You may have seen a new person around our building. Please give Mr. Forti a warm WBMS welcome!
My name is Lenny Forti and I will be substituting for Assistant Principal, Mike Milak for the next several weeks. I am a retired school principal with over 30 years of experience in the Fulton County School System. Prior to my retirement, I served as Principal at Sweet Apple Elementary School. My wife teaches fifth grade and my daughters also are school educators. During my free time I enjoy walking our chocolate Labrador, running a few miles, golfing, reading and traveling. I will be assuming Mr. Milak’s role working with the eighth grade team and his other assigned duties. It’s great to be a part of the Webb Bridge Middle School community. Please feel free to introduce yourself when you see me in the hallway or when you visit the school.

7th Grade Hindu Temple Field Trip
Webb Bridge MS 7th grade parents and community!
The 7th grade is headed to the JA Discovery Center Finance Park in Gwinnett on February 20, 21 and April 9, 2019.
Junior Achievement Volunteers Needed: We will need 10-15 volunteers on each day (February 20, 21 and April 9, 2019). You can go on a different day than your child if it works better for your schedule. As a volunteer you will be working directly with the students in each ‘store’ at Finance Park. Volunteers are required to report at the JA Discovery Center at the Gwinnett Discovery Center at 8:30 am for training. Volunteers will not ride the bus with us, but we can help you work out carpools with other parent volunteers on that day. You may also ask friends or co-workers. All volunteers must be verified through the Fulton County Volunteer registration process, which takes up to two days to process.

Your child has a dream, a vision for what their future can be. The JA Discovery Center provides students with opportunities to make those dreams a reality. There, your child will partake in a best in class simulation experience that will give them the tools to own their own economic success.
In the classroom they will have learned the fundamental skills they’ll need for this day, all that is missing is YOU to bring it all home! We would like to extend the invitation. Come along and support your student and their classmates. As a parent/community volunteer, you will not only share your life experiences to mentor and coach students through their day but you will also help the days learning transcend past the JA Discovery Center visit. We welcome all professions, your life experience and determination to succeed means you can serve as a volunteer. If you have ever had a job or paid a bill…you are the PERFECT volunteer!

Nineteen students participated in two events each in the areas of business etiquette, spelling concepts, introduction to computer science and coding, business math and financial literacy, career exploration, digital citizenship, social media concepts, Microsoft Office concepts, marketing concepts, FBLA concepts, business communication, and employability skills. We are very proud of our chapter members for taking the time to study and to demonstrate their knowledge in these testing areas. We will receive our results later this month.
The last day to submit LEAD information is Tuesday, February 19th. Members should contact Dr. Oravetz if they have any questions.
