SCHOOL BUS SAFETY!
TCS asks our community to join us to help ensure the safety of our students. Anytime a bus has lights and signs activated at a stop, please remember that there will be children either getting off the bus or standing on the ground waiting for the bus. This is the most vulnerable time for our students who are transported by bus.
TCS continually works to ensure the safety of our students. One tool used to ensure the safety of transported students is stop sign cameras for buses.
When a bus stops to pick up or let students off a bus, red lights flash and the arm and sign are engaged on the outside of the bus. Stop sign cameras video the outside of our buses. When a vehicle ignores the bus lights and signs and does not stop, the bus driver reports the incident to the TCS Transportation Department. The video from the camera is pulled and the Trussville Police Department notified. A TPD Officer reviews the video for the traffic infraction and issues a ticket based upon the tag number of the automobile.
Please help us keep our students safe by coming to a complete stop for loading or unloading of school buses. The few minutes you might save by not stopping is simply not worth the risk to our students.
To date, Trussville Police Department has issued 12 tickets for this offense.
Thank you,
Dale Posey

Magnolia Fifth Graders Study Matter
Fifth graders at Magnolia are discovering that the weight and mass of matter do not change when its state changes. Students found the mass of shortening, gummy candy, chocolate, and butter as solids, liquids, and then again as solids at the matter resolidified. According to their teacher, Ryan Hook, at the start of the unit, many students predicted that the weight and mass would decrease when the solid changed to a liquid, so this has been a big "a-ha" moment for students!
Grade 5 content standards provide students with opportunities for investigation, observation, and explanation of a variety of scientific phenomena.
Matter and Its Interactions Standard 1:
Investigate matter to provide mathematical evidence, including graphs, to show that regardless of the type of reaction (e.g., new substance forming due to dissolving or mising) or change (e.g., phase change) that occurs when heating, cooling, or mixing substances, the total weight of the matter is conserved.

Attention: 2nd Grade Parents
Scheduled testing for all Second graders has been postponed to the week of November 26-30, 2018, due to technical difficulties. This is our first year to administer this assessment online.
In an effort to address the differentiated instruction needs of Trussville students, a universal screening will be administered to all Second graders. The results will be shared with parents and educators. The online screening process will take place November 26-30, 2018, in the regular classroom and will be administered by the students’ homeroom teacher.
