Brightwood Tiger Weekly News
2001 Brightwood School Rd Greensboro, NC 27405
Week of December 12 - December 16
Good Evening Brightwood Tiger. This is Principal Stokes.
Welcome to another great Game Changing Week! Please remember we welcome our Tigers into the building beginning at 7:05 am and the tardy bell rings at 7:25 am. So far this school year we have had over 30% of our students coming to school tardy daily and over 28% of have been chronically absent from school so far this school year.
Please know that when students are constantly absent and/or late they are missing valuable instructional time that we cannot get back. The students are also missing out on their morning learning baskets and breakfast when they are coming to school tardy constantly. Attendance does matter, missing two days of school a month may not seem like much, but it can add up to a child being considered chronically absent. Frequent absences can have an impact on your child’s success in school.
Parents many students were issued their devices please help us with reminding the students that their devices are to be used for academic purposes only. Please take the time to check your child’s device to ensure that they are properly device.
At this time all students in grades Kindergarten through fifth that were issued a One Card. All students are expected to wear their One Card to school daily. If the student does not have their issued One Card it will need to be replaced. A new One Card cost five dollars each time it is lost.
Get caught reading over break! Students need read at least 300 minutes over winter break and to win tickets to two UNCG basketball games. Minutes must be read and recorded between December 17 and January 3. A completed winter break reading log must be turned in to Mrs. Pendleton by Friday, January 6.
Last week we began our December to Remember Spirit Week. Please be sure to visit ClassDojo for the Spirit Days for this week.
All grades, K-5, will be participating in building a gingerbread house for Brightwood's Gingerbread City on December 14 from 8 am – 9:30 am! In order to make this a success, we are asking for donations. Donations will be received from now until December 12th.
All class will be having their Winter Celebrations on Thursday December 15 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. Our last day of School before we start our Winter Break is December 16. If you are planning to send in items to support your child’s class celebrations. please only send purchased at a store and the items must be individually wrapped.
Parents please remember our safety protocols include that parents are not allowed to enter the building during our morning drop off and afternoon pick up times. When only students enter the building during these times, which allows us to be more equipped to recognize any potential suspicious activity. We welcome you to contact the school and/or your child’s teacher to schedule 15-minute classroom visits and meetings. We also ask that parents not park in the bus parking lot at any time unless you have special circumstances with prior approval from me.
School dismissal will begin at 2:13, instruction ends at 2:10 pm. Please remember that you must have your government issued photo ID with you each time you need to pick your child up early for appointment and emergencies which must be before 1:45 pm. We ask that you limit picking your child up early because they are missing valuable instructional time when they are being picked up early multiple times.
We thank you so much for all that you do! Remember it is always a Great Day to Be a Brightwood Tiger! Have a wonderful evening remember to be amazing, because you are Amazing.
Love Always your Proud Principal
Ms. LaTrice Stokes
