Power Up Presentations
Practical Project and/or Presentation Technology Tools

Looking for a new idea for student presentations? Need an alternative to PowerPoint? Want a fun discussion starter? During this in-service, we will take a look at PowerPoint Recording and learn how to use a variety of apps and other free web-based presentation tools. Explore fun alternatives to traditional presentations in any subject area. Bring an existing lesson and leave with a presentation ready for classroom use. Infographics will also be explored in this session.
Objectives
--Teachers will create content using various tools
Success Criteria:
--Teachers can create content/projects using the selected tools.
--Teachers can share projects created using the selected tools.

Why do we need alternatives to PowerPoint in the classroom? Read the Intro and Pillar 1 in the linked article and comment on the padlet discussion board as to why student presentations are important in today's classroom. ***Although there are a plethora of online presentations geared toward the classroom, we will concentrate on 7 today. I am also providing you a link to a site that lists some others not listed here.
1.) Piktochart - is a web-based infographic software which allows users without intensive experience as graphic designers to create professional-grade infographics, using templates.

2.) Powtoon - This website allows users to create colorful, visually engaging animated presentation (cartoon mashup) with drag-and-drop simplicity.

4.) Nearpod - allows teachers to construct presentations using the Nearpod website and deliver instruction to students by pushing content out to multiple devices at once. The teacher controls the presentation from a master iOS device, while students follow along on a class set of iPods or iPads.

This can also be done on personal devices...students can download the Nearpod app and join easily. If you do 'LIVE' sessions, you have control of when students can move to the next screen ;)

6.) Thinglink - is the leading platform for creating interactive images and videos for web, social, advertising, and educational channels. Be creative! Make your images come alive with video, text, images, shops, music and more! Every image contains a story and ThingLink helps you tell your stories.

The rest of our time will be spent in these ways:
Independent Study: Participants will decide on at least one program of the 8 discussed that would be an effective tool in their classroom, sign up, and make a short presentation.
Share: Participants share short presentation (or at least what you were able to accomplish during our time).
Review/Closure: Which of the 4 PLC Questions did we address? How do these tools do this?
