The 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) is an after-school program that provides students with academic enrichment opportunities that will offer support beyond the classroom curriculum. The 21st CCLC allows students to explore STEM, Physical Fitness, and Visual and Performing Arts activities, including but not limited to Theatre, Robotics, Engineering, and Culinary Arts. Students will also have the opportunity to attend field trips within the community to work with key stakeholders of this initiative. The Farm at Glenwood Mountain and The Painted Grape have partnered with Glen Meadow Middle School’s 21st CCLC. In addition, there will be a Parent University component which will provide workshops for parents/guardians and will also allow students to showcase their learning activities.
The program officially began on Monday, September 19, 2022, and will run Monday through Friday, immediately after school from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with parent/guardian pick up. Please note that on days that the school is closed or if we have called for an early dismissal, the program will not be in session. The 21st Century Community Learning Center is only available to 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students residing in Vernon Township and is at no cost to families.
Should you have any questions about the program, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Kait Ramirez at Glen Meadow Middle School at (973) 764-4534. RESTORATIVE PRACTICES
Restorative Practices at GMMS
What are some examples of Restorative Practices?
- Using Affective Statements - Affective statements, referred to as “I” statements tell the listener how the person feels and why it makes them feel that way. They are an effective way to teach students how to express their emotions appropriately.
- Community Circles - A Community Circle is a discussion space in which students and the teacher sit in a circle so that everyone is visible. What distinguishes a Community Circle from an everyday group discussion is that Community Circles are used as an opportunity for students to build community.
- Small Impromptu Conferencing - Bringing students together to resolve a problem/disagreement by discussing the situation and how to resolve it.
- Setting Classroom Agreements/Norms - Some examples of general class norms are: Come prepared to class, respect others and yourself, and be kind.

International Volunteer Day
December is a great time to get your family involved in volunteer projects within your community. Pass It Along is a non-profit organization committed to helping build confident, resilient, and compassionate teenagers through self-discovery, volunteerism and leadership. Check out some of the great opportunities they have available for students and families to participate in this holiday season:
Supporting Mental Health During the Holidays

5 Tips To Be Stress-Free
- Take care of yourself first. Get plenty of rest, eat a well-balanced diet, do some form of activity, carve out time for self-care, and remember to breathe. When we are stressed, we do not breathe deeply, which can amplify anxiety.
- Plan ahead, and do things in chunks.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
- Focus on experiences rather than things.
- Remember to laugh.
- Laughter boosts the immune system. It decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving our resistance to disease.
- Laughter triggers the release of endorphins. These are the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.
- Laughter protects the heart. It improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect against heart attacks and other cardiovascular problems.
- Laughter lightens anger’s heavy load. Nothing diffuses anger and conflict faster than a shared laugh. Looking at the funny side can put problems into perspective and allow us to move on from confrontations without holding onto bitterness or resentment.
- Laughter may even help us live longer. A study in Norway found that people with a strong sense of humor outlived those who do not laugh as much.
The Glen Meadow Way
- Respect Yourself and Others
- Take Responsibility for Your Actions
- Reach Your 100%
Here at Glen Meadow, we focus on respect, responsibility, and reaching our goals. We accomplish this by following the 5 Ps. We are Prompt, Prepared, Polite, Positive, and Productive!
Toys For Tots - Builder's Club
Please help a child in need during the holiday season. The GMMS Builders Club is collecting unused toys for the "Marine Toys for Tots" organization, which in turn, will distribute them to less fortunate children during the holidays. Donation boxes are in front of the main office until 12/9. If you would like to give a monetary donation, please click on the following link: Marine Toys for Tots
