A Friendly Conversation

Please join us for an evening of networking among faculty.

Dr. Susan Eva Porter, educator, speaker and author of BULLY NATION.

Buckingham Friends faculty joins with colleagues from Westfield Friends, United Friends, Princeton Friends, and Plymouth Meeting Friends for a collaborative professional development event.

We welcome Dr. Susan Porter to speak on the topic of bullying. She has worked in schools as a health educator, school counselor, school trustee, and consultant for over two decades. Her primary focus is on establishing and supporting healthy school environments, working with adults to effect positive change within school systems, and supporting students and their parents.

Dr. Porter has also has written extensively about adolescence, including about stress in schools, the boundaries between teachers and students, and most recently about bullying. She is the author of two books, Relating to Adolescents: Educators in a Teenage World (Rowman & Littlefield, 2008) and Bully Nation: Why America’s Approach to Childhood Aggression Is Bad For Everyone (Paragon House, 2013). After working for years as an educator and school counselor, Sue is now a Dean of Students at a high school in Marin County, CA.

In BULLY NATION, Dr. Porter offers a new approach to help kids develop the coping skills and resilience they need by dropping the labels, and using intervention, teaching, and discipline to help children change behaviors and develop coping skills.
