The Northern Raccoon is easily recognized by its striped tail and black mask. During this program, you will get to see a live raccoon up close. We will discuss their adaptations, diet, and habitat, including why they are more adapted to live in our neighborhoods than other species of wildlife.

From camouflaged flounder to counter-shaded sharks to mimicking anglerfish, different species of marine animals employ different forms of crypsis. Join master storyteller, author, and playwright Barbara Hailey as she explains how inner strength and resilience will lead you through life’s struggles as well as the importance of one’s character and dreams. George H.W. Bush was always known as a man of high moral character, and throughout his life he was faced with trials and tribulations that put him to the test. President Bush relied on his strength of character and personal values to direct him on the path to achieve his dreams. Both President Bush’s letters in All the Best and Barbara Hailey’s book The Wizard of Oz is in You! address how important our character and our goals are in leading us on the right path in life. Meet the DHDC’s smallest residents in this interactive program. Students will have the opportunity to get up close with the DHDC critters, which include snakes, lizards, tarantulas, and small mammals such as a sugar glider or chinchilla! Concepts explored in Critters Live! include life cycles, habitats, differences within species, and learned vs. inherited traits.
