No one has a problem with the first mile of a journey. Even an infant could do fine for a while. But it isn’t the start that matters. It’s the finish line.”

Commit to Excellence-Finish Strong
We have lots of end of the year activities on the calendar. This change in structure and routine can be difficult for students. Please keep the rest of the time as normal as possible. We want to end the year on a positive note with students. We also want to use every last minute to prepare our students for the next grade level. Please make every minute count! Finish strong is the theme. Here is a quote from an article that I shared at this time last year.
For those of you moving on to new adventures, remember that you’re only ever as good as your last exit…….and for those of us returning, know that students remember the educators that we are in June…..so let’s make sure they remember the best of what we have to offer. The last few weeks are going to speed by everyone so please commit to making them count. Let’s all feel great about what we’ve accomplished so far this year…it’s been amazing…but we’re not done yet! Finish strong and wrap up the year with a beautiful bow…Have a wonderful week everyone and remember to be great for our students and good to each other.
Please read or refresh yourself on the article at this website. It is short and full of some great thoughts about the best way to end the year. http://connectedprincipals.com/archives/11590 (you may have to copy and paste this link)
Are you filling each minute with engaging activities? Do students have time to make poor choices? Are students closely monitored at recess and lunch? If recess is an issue make changes! Implement an indoor game room or have structured recess activities outside. Think outside of the box!
Believe in yourselves! Believe in your kids! I believe in you!
Affirmations
What a great STAAR week! Thank you to Mrs. Rhodes for doing a great job in planning and preparation. It takes lots of effort for a week like this to go off smoothly. There are so many teachers and staff members to thank for assisting with testing. Teachers from lower grades assisted, and the teachers who did not test did a fabulous job keeping the rest of the students quiet and focused. It truly is a team effort. Thank you to everyone for your part in a smooth testing week.
Thank you to our kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Whitefield, Ms. Scamardo, Mrs. Barbu, Ms. Felix and Ms. Castillo for doing a great job with our transition to kindergarten night. Thank you to Mrs. Marak for organizing this event and for Mrs. Rhodes for assisting as well.
End of the Year Behavior
Reminder about the behavior room (Composure lab) and Mr. R. At this time of year he gets lots of calls and often times for very minor things. Stay true to your discipline procedures. Be firm, yet fair. Call Mr. R only in an emergency. If you call him often for minor things, kids will sense that you are rattled and are not in control. Your authority in the room will be questioned. Kids need your boundaries to ensure their sense of safety and security.
Remember that students can only be assigned to the behavior room by Mrs. Rhodes or me. Please do not send students without having talked with us and written an office referral. (This is a general statement. We have a couple of kids who Mr. R intervenes with regularly due to their situations. That will not change.)
