Highlights From Last Week

Thank You from the JES Staff!

Thank you to everyone who participated in Teacher Appreciation Week! Your thoughtfulness and kind words were much appreciated. From the door decorations, to the sweet notes from the children, to the staff appreciation luncheon, you really spoiled us. JES is such a special place! Thank you again, from the JES staff.

Matt Tavares Visited JES

Author and illustrator, Matt Tavares, visited JES this week. He spoke to the children about how he became interested in writing and drawing. His message was a powerful one for the children:

  1. Read a lot!
  2. Write everyday.
  3. Don't be discouraged or frustrated by the revising and editing process.

Welcome JES Class of 2029!

Juvenile Protection

Get ready for Jefferson's Walk to School Week Happening in Late May

Did you know that pedestrians have rights too? Cars don't always rule the road. Below are two parts of the PA Code that give pedestrians the right of way over cars.

  • At non-controlled intersections, vehicles shall yield the right-or-way to pedestrians in a marked or unmarked crosswalk. Stop and let kids cross Moffett Street in front of JMS at dismissal.
  • The driver of a vehicle emerging from or entering an alley, building, private road or driveway shall yield the right of way to any pedestrian approaching on any sidewalk extending across the alley, building entrance, road or driveway. Stop and let kids through before you pull in or out of your driveways.

If there is a sidewalk, the pedestrian must use it and may walk in either direction. If there is no sidewalk, but there is a shoulder present, pedestrians must walk on the shoulder and may walk in either direction. In the absence of a sidewalk or shoulder, pedestrians may walk in the road, as close to the edge as practicable and must walk on the left side of the road facing traffic.
