As a culture we place a lot of expectations on the holidays. As kids we look forward to the joy of the season, with great food and family, and lots of time to just enjoy life and have fun since school will be out for a few weeks. These memories are imprinted into our mind and are revived every year with the sounds and sights of the holidays. To most it's a special time of year, one in which we celebrate and connect with those closest to us. For many though it can be a time of loneliness. For some it's another year without that special someone to share the season with. For others it may be a move away from family and the thought of not knowing anyone in the newly arrived city or possibly the first year away from their children, a deceased loved one or some other significant event that may be happening in their lives. Most of us will not have to experience this during this holiday season, but for those that do, remember to invite them into your homes and lives, and to share with them the closeness of friendship and family. This could be a co-worker, neighbor, relative, or friend. Regardless, this is the most significant gesture of the holiday spirit you can bring to life this year. Presents are fun to give and receive, but the true nature of giving is really from the heart. The holidays are a time to rekindle old friendships; making time to get together for coffee when otherwise you seem too busy. Calling those you generally don't make time for since you now live separate lives. During the holidays have people over or visit others, something that most people do very little of anymore with their busy hustle and bustle lives. It's a time to let bygones be bygones, and forgive and forget when it comes to siblings, parents, or friends who may have upset you during the past year.
Family Time
Christmas Though the Family
-Trina Graves
To a child Christmas is the most magical time of the year
Full of wonder and excitement waiting for Santa and reindeer
Counting down each day, with even a tree indoors to decorate
Captivating memories through childhood years accumulate
Each intense and thrilling Christmas morning finally arrives
Bringing presents galore, heaps of fun and maybe a surprise
Days of new toys, sweets and other delicious things to eat
For Christmas to last forever, they'd wish in a heartbeat
For parents Christmas creates a mixture of things
The stress of it all contrasts the abundance of joy it brings
Worrying about what to buy and how to pay for it all
Disappears when seeing the delight on their child befall
With so much to get done, the clock ticks away so fast
But how they wish the enchantment of that day would last
Because for their own sweet child, anything they'd do
To make all their wishes and dreams come true
Young siblings at Christmas share the joys
Of the escalating excitement thinking of toys
They might receive if Santa thinks they've been good
Talking into the night, how they wish he would
Childhood Christmas days spent with sister or brother
Amasses laughter and sharing to re-discover
In later years when in family-get-togethers they meet
And to another generation their stories repeat
For teens and young adults Christmas is for fun
Celebrating with friends, just has to be done
It's a balancing act fitting in family and friends
As their time and attention splits then blends
The greatest pull can come with blossoming love
From their first relationship, as if from Heaven above
First love at Christmas brings them a new dimension
As the joy of giving to love expands their comprehension
A Grandparent's Christmas is full of timeless memories
Evergreen moments shared with their beloved families
Going way back to the times when their children were small
It's only the enduring love and happiness they recall
Time's moved on and now they have grandchildren to treasure
Each precious jewel brings more love and the purest pleasure
The family continues to expand as the years go by
Bliss of Grandparenthood lifts their Soul sky high
All through these stages of Christmas days
Life moves on through time, expanding always
Change is inevitable, time can not stand still
So appreciating these moments is vital to fill
Your heart and Soul with joyous memories
Of the stages of life spent around Christmas trees
Because that is what family at Christmas is for
To celebrate, the joy and love you share, above all
-May this Christmas Season.....Be even better than those from the past!

The Magic of Flowers
Narcissus:
The Narcissus means rebirth and renewal because it’s one of the earliest bulbs to sprout. If you know someone that is the first to arrive at every event, you can celebrate their punctuality with this flower. The Victorians considered it an egoist’s flower, while the Chinese use it to symbolize future prosperity and wealth. Almost all Narcissus blooms show up in shades of orange, yellow, and white. This links to the flower to purity and rebirth through the color meaning as well as its other physical characteristics. The sunny color is very charming and encouraging, especially after a long winter with no flowers in sight. Many people keep paperwhites, a white variety of Narcissus, in their home during the winter to force blooms for the beauty of nature while everything outdoors is dormant or dead.
Holly
Holly is a flower name that immediately brings up the idea of wintertime and Christmas. It is associated with winter because it is often used for many different decorations. It is a plant that is very commonly used to decorate during the Christmas season and for many people this is how they have come to know the plant. Believe it or not, sometimes the wood of the holly plant is used during the process of making chess pieces. This is interesting because holly actually is a symbol of defense. It is because of this symbol behind this plant that it is an ideal gift around the Christmas holidays.
The month of December officially has three birthstons:
Tanzanite is the exquisite blue-purple variety of the mineral zoisite that is only found in one part of the world. Named for its limited geographic origin in Tanzania, tanzanite has quickly risen to popularity since its relatively recent discovery.
Zoisite had been around more than a century and a half before this rare blue variety was found in 1967. Trace amounts of vanadium, mixed with extreme heat, cause the blue-purple color—which ranges from pale blue to intense ultramarine with violet undertones.
Due to pleochroism, tanzanite can display different colors when viewed from different angles. Stones must be cut properly to highlight the more attractive blue and violet hues, and deemphasize the undesirable brown tones.
The majority of tanzanite on the market today is heat treated to minimize the brown colors found naturally, and to enhance the blue shades that can rival sapphire.
Tanzanite is still only found on a few square miles of land in Tanzania, near majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. Its price and availability are directly tied to mines in this region, most of which are now slowing production significantly.
Tanzanite measures 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness—which is not nearly as hard as the sapphire it often substitutes. Given its vulnerability to scratch during daily wear and abrasion, tanzanite is better suited for earrings and pendants than rings.
Between its deep blue color and its limited supply, tanzanite is treasured by many, even if your birthday is not in December.
Zircon
Zircon is an underrated gemstone that’s often confused with synthetic cubic zirconia due to similar names and shared use as diamond simulants. Few people realize that zircon is a spectacular natural gemstone available in a variety of colors.
The name “zircon” likely comes from the Persian word zargun, meaning “gold-colored.” Others trace it to the Arabic zarkun, meaning “vermillion.” Given its wide range of colors—spanning red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and brown—both origins are plausible.
Zircon commonly occurs as brownish red, which can be popular for its earth tones. However, most gem-quality stones are heat treated until colorless, gold or blue (the most popular color). Blue zircon, in particular, is the alternative birthstone for December.
Color differences in zircon are caused by impurities, some of which (like uranium) can be slightly radioactive. These gemstones are also treated with heat to stabilize the radioactivity.
While radiation can break down zircon’s crystal structure, it plays a crucial role in radiometric dating. Zircon, the oldest mineral on Earth, contains important clues about the formation of our planet.
Colorless zircon, known as Matura Diamond, displays brilliance and flashes of multicolored “fire” that can rival fine diamond. There’s one key difference though: Zircon is more brittle. Though it measures 7.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness, its faceted edges can chip.
Zircon from Australia dates back 4.4 billion years. Australia still leads the world in zircon mining, producing 37 percent of the world’s supply. Other sources include Thailand, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Cambodia, Canada, and the United States.
Since the Middle Ages, people have believed that zircon gemstones can induce sleep, ward off evil, and promote prosperity.
Turquoise
Admired since ancient times, turquoise is known for its distinct color, which ranges from powdery blue to greenish robin’s egg blue. It’s one of few minerals to lend its name to anything that resembles its striking color.
The word “turquoise” dates back to the 13th century, drawing from the French expression pierre tourques, which referenced the “Turkish stone” brought to Europe from Turkey.
Ancient Persia (now Iran) was the traditional source for sky blue turquoise gemstones. This color is often called “Persian blue” today, regardless of its origin. The Sinai Peninsula in Egypt was also an important historical source of turquoise gems.
The U.S. is now the world’s largest turquoise supplier. Nevada, New Mexico, California, and Colorado have produced turquoise, but Arizona leads in production by value, as well as quality. The stone’s popularity here makes it a staple in Native American jewelry.
Turquoise is found in arid regions where rainwater dissolves copper in the soil, forming colorful nodular deposits when it combines with aluminum and phosphorus. Copper contributes blue hues, while iron and chrome add a hint of green.
Some turquoise contains pieces of host rock, called matrix, which appear as dark webs or patches in the material. This can lower the stone’s value, although the uniform “spiderweb” pattern of Southwestern turquoise is attractive.
Turquoise is sensitive to direct sunlight and solvents like makeup, perfume, and natural oils. The hardest turquoise only measures 6 on the Mohs scale, which made this soft gemstone popular in carved talismans throughout history.
From ancient Egyptians to Persians, Aztecs and Native Americans, kings and warriors alike admired turquoise for thousands of years. It adorned everything from jewelry to ceremonial masks to weapons and bridles—granting power and protection, particularly against falls.
Highly esteemed for its striking namesake color and its ancient history, turquoise's popularity remains timeless.

Tarot of the Month
Christina
For the final month of the year and decade in December, we pull the cards for the first ten days, the second ten, and the last eleven. From the 1st to the 10th, we see the Five of Wands. Often this is a symbol of some conflict that is currently going on around you or is about to take place. However for some it can be a gathering of people, united together to achieve a common goal. This could be akin to builders erecting a house, or even a political party meeting to seek cohesion in their direction. More than likely though a lot of activity takes place and you can see that there are basically many hands on deck. The issue may be that there is some expertise and effort needed to get everyone thinking on the same level, rather than a divided group. If you wish to create a more harmonious state amongst a group of people who are not seeing eye to eye, try to find a common denominator and work on that element of these people. From the 11th to the 20th, we pull the Page of Cups. The picture on this card is of a youngish person, who is often male, though this can indicate a female. He is colourfully dressed and wears a hat. He carries a cup before him, as an offering of sharing what he has learnt. He looks content and yet very innocent. He could be about to embark on a new career or had just graduated from college, university or from law school. He is clean shaven, either blue or black eyes and has lovely sleek hair. He loves to wear bright coloured clothing which reflects his warmth and compassion for others. If you draw this card and the person is yourself, you may discover some new career direction that will lead you towards prosperity. If it is someone else, they could become very important to you, either by becoming your new best friend, or your lover or husband/wife. This person is also highly sensitive and should therefore only mix with people who are positive and enthusiastic. There may also be some special occasion coming up where you have to put on your best threads. From the 21st to the 31st, we pull the Knight of Pentacles. The picture on this card shows a man in a suit of armour riding a horse. He carries a large pentacle as his shield. He moves forward confidently yet keeping a keen eye out for any obstacles in his path. He is delivering a message of good news to someone who needs it. This may be a financial opportunity coming your way, or you have just won the lottery. He is the bearer of good news, so welcome him with open arms and be sure to give him some refreshment on arrival to your door. If you have just started a new business venture with a friend, this will prove to be a sound investment in your future. Summing up the month, it starts with some creative conflicts then goes into prosperity, discovery and ends with good news. We will end on a very positive note. A happy Winter Solstice, Yule, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year’s Eve to all. Blessed be.--
Questions and Counsel
Katelyn
Hi Katelyn,
There is this guy that I know loves me, but he wouldn't commitment to me. I love him, and I know the feeling is mutual. I can tell by the way he talks to me, looks at me, and interacts with me, but its all inconsistent. I broke it off with him, and now he is dating someone else. From what it looks like he is giving her everything that I had asked for. Now what?
Sincerely,
Dazed and Confused
Hi Dazed and Confused,
Im so glad you asked me this question! A lot of people experience the exact situation that you are describing. It’s a sensitive topic and situation to be in, and usually followed by very insensitive advice from friends: “if he wanted to be with you he would,” “its not that he didn’t want to be in a relationship he didn’t want to be in a relationship with you,” “you’re too good for him.” Which all may hold the harsh truth, but they don’t hold the absolute truth. This, Dazed and Confused, is the absolute truth - live your life. Trust the universe so fiercely that you know you wont miss out on a connection you are meant to experience in this life. Know that what is for you will be yours and all you have to do to receive it is to make yourself happy. Life is not meant to be lived feeling dazed and confused. You get out there and you show up for yourself and you’ll be surprised who in turn show up for you as well.
Clear and Focused,
Katelyn

Please be aware that if their is a person or thing within your home that is not for your highest good they/it will be removed. Before doing this protection please be sure that you are reading to let go of things that no longer serve you.
Obtain five stones, crystals or shells that represent the elements and directions to you. Choose smaller stones because you will be planting them in the ground.
Be sure to sage yourself, digging tools and crystals.
As you smudge each stone set the intention that only positive people and things can enter your your property and home.

The second stone will go east which represents air/ Raphael, third stone south which represents fire/ Michael and the fourth stone will be planted west for water/Gabriel. Please maintain the intention of protection and gratitude for the protection while planting each stone. Place the fifth stone at the center of your property which may be inside of your home or business. If it is outside plant in the ground as before. Cinnamon
Cinnamon is one of those herbs that has special healing powers not only in ancient Indian Ayurvedic treatment modalities but also in ancient Chinese healing methods. Cinnamon reminds us of Christmases past with its tantalizing scent that is so earthy and cozy. One cannot help to cuddle up with a mug of spiced apple cider with a real cinnamon stick inside on a cold Winter's night. It conjures up great memories and is often used in many modern cooking recipes, and cocktail mixologists use cinnamon frequently when crafting their signature cocktails that will be ordered repeatedly into the wee morning hours by party goers and drink connoisseurs alike.
Cinnamon is a spice, and the bark contains all the healing properties. The tree itself grows anywhere from 10 to 15 ft tall. Just as Thailand has the unofficial reputation for growing the best coconuts that yield the most delicious coconut water in the world, you will find no other place in the world that grows the best cinnamon trees other than the country of Sri Lanka. This country has the sweetest and most aromatic cinnamon around.
The Power of Cinnamon
Did you know that cinnamon was more valuable then gold than gold in the ancient days? Yes, it is true and has been documented and recorded for centuries. The wonderful aroma that Cinnamon fills up a room with is due to cinnamaldehyde, an indispensable oil found in the bark of cinnamon trees. Known in Hindi as dalchini, in Sanskrit as twak, and in Gujarati as taj, cinnamon has a long history of use in Ayurvedic home remedies.
It is important to know that there are quite a few of different potencies of cinnamon. The two key players you need to know about are Cassia cinnamon and Ceylon cinnamon. Buying cinnamon powder from your local grocery store? Then you are most likely buying the lower-quality Cassia variant. Go online, and you will find an abundance of the high-quality Ceylon variant, which has all the health benefits and none of the ill-effects that your grocery store carries due to the low-quality Cassia cinnamon these popular chain stores offer. According to Lissa Coffey of the Ayurveda Experience High quality Ceylon cinnamon is a warming spice, and it consists of sweet, pungent and bitter tastes. It is excellent for pacifying Kapha and good for balancing Vata also. In Ayurveda, cinnamon is used to assist digestion and to calm stomach disorders.
Ceylon cinnamon from Sri Lanka is the best and here are five examples of the health benefits this remarkable, ancient Indian spice has on the human body:
· Cough and cold - Just sipping away at some cinnamon infused water helps alleviate congestion. Add some honey and now we’re really talking about powerful healing properties.
· Acne and dry skin - That’s right, the bark of a tree does wonders when it comes to your complexion. Cinnamon powder with rose water applied to the skin for 10 minutes. The antimicrobial properties prevent the growth of acne-causing bacteria.
· Hair and Beauty - Cinnamon will enhance your scalps blood circulation, it will also promote hair growth and strengthen the hair roots.
· Digestive aid - As you may already know, Ayurvedic medicine has to do with the mind-body connection. If your mind is too stressed, if there is no equilibrium or a state of homeostasis, the digestive system will start giving you problems nearly all the time. Cinnamon dramatically improves digestion and absorption. It is a natural antibacterial that heals infections in the GI tract
· Nature’s anesthetic - For certain cases such as a sinus headache, combine ½ teaspoon of cinnamon with water to make a paste. Apply to your forehead and say bye-bye to your headache. There are many studies which show that by combining honey or ginger with cinnamon powder, it can provide helpful benefits for those who have arthritis.
So, there you have it, wonderful and remarkable cinnamon. Used by both the ancient Chinese and Indian ancient healers as one of the most versatile spices to aid in a large assortment of ailments. Cinnamon continues to be on the forefront in helping people feel better and living longer and more productive lives.
