Hello! We hope you have been enjoying the crisp, fall weekend! Speaking of which, as you prepare for your child's week at school, you may want to have your child bring a sweater or sweatshirt for the cooler morning temperatures. Our building's system has not yet been switched from cooling to heating.This switch is usually a daylong process. Therefore, it is only completed by our district maintenance team once later in the fall and then switched back once again in the spring.

Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week

We thank the Arlington Heights Fire Department for coming to Dryden to educate our students about fire safety and prevention. Our whole school is planning to participate in a fire drill with the AHFD later this week, so if you see the fire engines in front of our school you will know why they are here. Students will also have a chance to see their vehicles and equipment up close. We are grateful for all that our local firefighters do to keep our community safe!

Columbus Day / School Improvement Day, October 14

There will be no school for students on Columbus Day, Monday, October 14. This is a School Improvement Day for School District 25 staff. We will be reviewing students' benchmark assessments and planning for their instruction accordingly. Parents will have an opportunity to learn more about student benchmarks and goals for the year during Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 24 and 25. We hope you enjoy the three-day weekend!

Please keep in mind that we will follow the MONDAY specials schedule when students return to school on Tuesday, October 15. There are several of these "switch" dates scheduled throughout the year in our school district to balance out the number of specials classes (art, library, music and physical education) for all of our students.

Students will participate in an annual bus evacuation drill with their classroom teachers on Friday, October 18. This is a helpful refresher of how to stay safe when riding a school bus.

Cognitive Abilities Testing, Grades 3 & 5

Cognitive Abilities Testing, Grades 3 & 5

The district assessment window for Cognitive Abilities Testing in grades three and five will be open through October 23. Classroom teachers will inform parents of specific test dates and times. Please look for a letter from District Assessment Coordinator, Kristin Williams, this week for more information about this test.

PTA Sweetest Day Family Dance, October 18

Please join the PTA for this new family activity on Friday, October 18 from 6:30-8:30pm in the Dryden Commons. We'll have a DJ, crafts, a professional photographer taking family photos, and snacks for purchase. Presale tickets are $10 through Cheddar Up and $15 at the door. We can only accept cash or checks at the door.

The theme for the 2019-2020 program year is Look Within. Students submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts.
