Weekly Update Volume 23 February 26, 2023
Principal's Corner
As we embark upon Read Across America Week and prepare for Spring SOLs, it is crucial that we all self-reflect. It is easy to make mistakes, but it is what you do after that counts. As humans, we are not perfect or without flaws. Keeping this in mind, we all need support from others. Even the best leaders need genuine help and suggestions from time to time. As a faculty and staff, please support one another, discuss matters before complaining or venting, voice your concerns with the appropriate person, and remember no one at SCES or in the division is without shortcomings. We all worked hard to achieve what we have personally and professionally.
On another note, the administration team is constantly working with teachers, specialists, and directors to find ways to improve our instructional foundation. Here are some look-for's that we do not see in all classrooms that need to be strengthened to improve instruction at SCES.
*Grades 3-5 teachers should have students complete a multiplication table daily and use it consistently during math class.
*Grades 1-2 teachers should have students complete a 100 chart daily and use it consistently.
*All grade levels should check for understanding prior to, during, and after lessons.
*Grades 1-2 teachers should set an expectation for students to use scratch paper when taking any type of assessment and classwork. This will set a routine for students.
*Grades K-5 teachers should provide students with remediation and intervention on skills of deficits ongoing.
*Grades 1-5 teachers are expected to complete the item analysis and reteach students on skills of deficits after each assessment.
*Grades Prek-5 teachers are expected along with the librarian to promote AR and reading.
