A Visual Merchandiser may be known as a window dresser or display assistance, who use their creativity to design window screens, product displays, and store layouts to promote their company and give them a reputation of what customers expect and encourage them to buy.
A visual merchandiser's day-to-day job consists of designing new displays for windows and developing new floor plans which advertise special promotions or offers. Depending on the type of store a Visual Merchandising works for, either an individual store or branches of a store, a Visual Merchandising role is creating a brands visual merchandising packages to send to each branch of a store. A visual merchandiser's role is to provide the correct equipment and sourcing display materials for setting up displays such as hiring, borrowing or making props, dressing dummies and arranging screens, fabrics and posters. Visual merchandisers need to hear feedback from the head office and buying team from store on the increase/decrease of the display on its influence to customers. Store assistance must learn how goods should be displayed. Managers and above are responsible for taking down old displays.
There are two types of Visual merchandisers with different roles and responsibilities;
Senior Visual merchandiser - responsible for planning store plan for the year, creating visual plans and buying appropriate equipment, props and models.
Head office Visual merchandiser - Coordinators often prepare a visual merchandising packages to send to other stores, so that all stores have the same company look and feel.

Working hours and income
Starting salaries can be from £12,000 to £16,000 a year.For Senior visual merchandisers can earn around £20,000 to £25,00 a year, and visual merchandising managers or designers can earn between £25,000 and £55,000 a year. Visual merchandising directors can earn £60,000 a year and over. Some roles may be benefitted with company car, fuel allowance and mobile phone.
