PANTHER PRIDE
DECEMBER NEWSLETTER
Message From The Principal
The school year seems to be flying by! Fall break has come and gone, and Winter break is right around the corner. I started a tradition for myself last year to write a letter this time of year to express my gratitude for the many blessings in my life and express my thanks for having what I believe is the best job in the world.
I want to start off by thanking the students, they truly are the best part of the job. Each year we asked our students to work hard, do their best, challenge themselves, and display Panther Pride on a daily basis. Looking at the work they are producing, attendance rates, and student behavior, I can say with confidence our students are accomplishing these goals. We have amazing students and I am so proud of each one of them. I love celebrating with our students and seeing all the great things they are accomplishing.
Likewise, I would like to thank our staff. I truly believe I get to work with the best staff who all believe each student is capable of learning and growing. We have dedicated teachers who continually look for instructional strategies to improve student achievement. Most importantly, our staff develops meaningful relationships with our students, and those relationships lead to the positive culture of Peine Ridge Elementary. We are a team, and I appreciate how hard our teachers work to ensure every student at Peine Ridge feels valued, loved and is successful.
I would also like to thank our parents and the school community. The support and involvement that we have received from parents and the community are amazing. We raised nearly $16,000 in profit from our PTO fundraiser. This level of support helps our PTO support our teachers and students and make Peine Ridge an even more amazing school each year. What I am most impressed with is your dedication to excellence in educating our children. Thank you for your support at home and your involvement at school.
Finally, I would like to thank my family. As much as I enjoy my job, my favorite part of the day is seeing my wife, Jenn, and my daughters Zaya and Amzie, at the end of the day. I would like to thank them for understanding the time that goes into making Peine Ridge one of the top elementary schools in the state and for being understanding with the amount of time I put into my work. They know it is more than a job for me, they know it is my passion and calling in life. First Husband, Father, than Educator. THEY GET IT and for that, I am so grateful.
Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to serve our school and students. I would like to wish the entire school community a happy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Dr. Ryan Andrews

TEACHER OF THE YEAR
Lisa Ryan was selected as the 2018-19 Teacher of the Year. Lisa has been a 5th-grade teacher here at Peine Ridge Elementary since the building opened in 2006. Lisa is always thinking of how to help all students. She befriends and makes connections to students. She offers her time to share activities with these students, helping them feel loved and knowing they have a safe place with her. Lisa also assesses needs and takes action to improve the situation. For example, she saw the need to help with student discipline on the bus. She rode the bus to offer another adult to help with discipline. Then she helped create a seating chart and spoke with all the students of that bus. Every day she walks the students to the bus to encourage and praise them for the improvements they've shown. Lisa is constantly willing to help and is Superwoman when it comes to teaching! I think Lisa Ryan is one of the most professional and selfless teachers in our building. Lisa is always one of the first to volunteer to help with anything. She also is a wealth of knowledge and is confident in her teaching. Lisa will do anything and everything that is needed for her students. You never have to worry about Lisa judging you in the way you do something, she will always find something she can learn from too. She is accepting of everyone and always kind. Our staff looks up to Lisa and her leadership in this building. Her passion for education and her dedication to the students and staff has earned her this title.
Thank you, Lisa, for going above and beyond for our Peine Ridge students and staff every day! We are extremely grateful for all that you do!
November Scholars of the Month
Each month every grade level chooses one student who exemplifies the Big 3 in all areas. The following students were chosen as Scholar of the Month for November:
Kindergarten: Liam Rees
Liam is an exceptional student and a positive role model for his peers! He is so sweet, thoughtful, and has such a kind heart! Liam is beyond helpful with his peers and teachers, especially through his encouraging words, honesty, and integrity. He is the definition of a hard worker and always gives his best effort even when tasks are difficult. I can always count on Liam to be respectful, responsible, and kind all day! He is such a joy to have in class!
First Grade: Owen Hunn
Owen blew me away the first week of school by showing outstanding sportsmanship! When any of our friends receive recognition he would make sure they knew how proud he was of them by clapping his hands with excitement. Now our classroom has followed after him and everyone sees the importance of making each other feel good :) Owen is a constant role model while also being an outgoing friend, and always giving 100% effort in everything he does! I am so proud of Owen, and look forward to what the rest of the year holds for him!
Second Grade: Isabelle Williams
Isabelle Williams is our scholar of the month. Isabelle is a great role model for everyone in our class. She is kind and respectful to everyone. She is always eager to help others that may need a little extra help with their work. If she sees a student that needs a friend she is there for them. She always works hard and gives 100% on her work. I am so proud of her progress and love for learning!!
Third Grade: Lydia Jansen
Lydia has been chosen as the November Scholar of the Month for 3rd Grade! Lydia is a role model for all of her peers while putting in 110% effort into all of her work. She is an amazing friend to everyone that she meets and will jump in to help anyone at any given time. She is patient, brave, unwavering, generous, humble and so much more! She is a student that peers just gravitate towards as they can always count on her! Lydia has been noticed by several other teachers as being an outstanding leader for her peers. We are so thankful to have Lydia in our class! Keep rockin’ Lydia, we are proud of you!
Fourth Grade: Addy Hendee
Addy is a wonderful student in so many ways. She is always trying her best and offering help to those who need it. She is kind, thoughtful, and so very generous. She always follows the Big 3 and is a role model for her classmates. We are so lucky to have her in our classroom this year!
Fifth Grade: Kylee Lowe
Kylee is such an outstanding role model for her peers. She is always showing kindness and compassion toward others. She is responsible for her work and her decisions. You can count on Kylee to show the Big 3 and to look for ways to grow as a student. She gives 110% in everything that she does. Kylee will be moving at the end of December and we will miss her greatly. Her new school is definitely gaining a very valuable asset!
Sixth Grade: Tayla Hayden
6th grades November Scholar of the Month is Tayla Hayden. Tayla is a hard worker in the classroom. She is not afraid to ask questions, share in class, and ask for help when needed. Tayla can also be seen being a great leader by helping classmates out, demonstrating the Big 3, and being friendly to everyone.
PBIS talk
The Amazing Shake Crew did an outstanding job running the Veteran’s Day assembly earlier this month. It is very rewarding to see students stepping up and taking on these public speaking roles in our school community. October’s Scholars enjoyed a lunch off campus with the principals, it is so much fun to see the students experience this unique dining opportunity with the staff. Remind your child to keep earning those House points. Reveur is currently in the lead, but that can change in an instant!
Remember that every Wednesday is House Day! Wear your House colors to show your school spirit!!

Note From the Nurse
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are currently in the middle of cold and flu season. Please take a moment to speak with your child about the importance of hand washing and coughing or sneezing into the fold of their arm to help prevent the spread of germs.
It is understood that certain symptoms in children may suggest the presence of a communicable disease. Excluding an ill child may aid in decreasing the spread of the illness to others in the school setting as well as allow adequate time for the ill child to feel better.
With this being said, please remember that it is Wentzville School District’s Policy that students who are sent home for vomiting, fever, and/or diarrhea, may not return to school until they are free of all symptoms for a full 24 hours from the time they are sent home.
Thank you for your continued support in helping keep Peine Ridge a happy and HEALTHY environment for your children! J

Food Allergy
We are asking for your assistance in providing a safe learning environment for all students. To help reduce the risk of exposure please:
a.) Instruct your child on the importance of NOT SHARING FOOD or DRINKS with classmates.
b.) Encourage your child to practice good hand washing techniques with soap and water, before and after eating/touching all foods.
c.) Please DO NOT send in food items, without checking with your child’s teacher, for classroom parties and “special occasions”, such as birthdays. We ask for a TWO WEEK notice be given with the food item of choice. Per the Peine Ridge Elementary handbook, foods must be pre-packaged, individually wrapped snacks, with a clear nutrition label and ingredients listed on the package. Bakery treats, such as cookies, cupcakes and non-individually wrapped items, will not be accepted and turned away. The handbook policy is listed below:
“When your child has a birthday, you may send a small, store-bought, individually, pre-packaged snack. Students will not be allowed to distribute snacks that are not store-bought, with a label attached. Our cafeteria has allergy-safe options that are available for purchase.”
If your child has a newly found life-threatening allergy, please immediately notify the school nurse and classroom teacher, to implement the necessary safety procedures. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation.
