Congratulations Class of 2017
Farewell Message from Dr. Gay Burden, CTE Coordinator
As long as you continue to make decisions based on what is best for students, you will continue to flourish. This is your time! Together, we have grown from 2 to 19 Honors CTE courses in the past two years. We have increased the number of Dual Enrollment Courses from two to seven. We continue Dual Credit exam opportunities for students. We had 108 students sitting for exam certifications this school year! Results are still pending, but the majority are overwhelmingly earning these certifications. We have CTE students who will graduate from high school with both college credit and industry certification. Please take the time to read this CTE Newsletter and celebrate your programs and students, for it is these captured moments that make up our lives as educators.
A special thank you to Becky Roy. Becky has been a strong supporter of CTE since Day 1, and she works diligently to support you and your programs. Thank you Becky!
I don't like goodbyes, so I will just say, "See you again."
Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings. ~William Arthur Ward

White House FFA members Win State Championship with IMPRESSIVE Project!
Two members of the White House FFA, Mackenzie Wherry and Emma Green, competed in the state Agriscience Fair competition in Gatlinburg recently. The duo researched the efficacy of simulated stomach acid to dissolve white and dark chicken meat. They then conducted an experiment to determine which would dissolve faster in muriatic acid. Finally, they defended their research, experiment, and conclusions before a panel of judges at the state competition, winning the state championship. The team will next compete at the national level in the fall.
The purpose of their experiment was to see if white or dark meat would digest faster. They determined that the information could be useful to consumers that may have digestion issues such as diverticulitis or Irritated Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Marketers and farmers may also use the findings to help better market their products to certain consumers. After researching the issue, the literature suggested that white meat would digest faster. This lead the experimenters to hypothesize that the white meat would dissolve faster in simulated stomach acid, which was proved correct in their experiment.

Gallatin High School Student's Complete Certification in Microsoft Office
FIFTY-SIX students in Lynda Love's Computer Applications classes recently received Microsoft Office certifications in Word and PowerPoint. This is the first year that Gallatin High School has been able to provide students the opportunity to receive MOS certification through Certiport, which is endorsed by Microsoft to give them a competitive edge in today's professional and academic world. Research shows that when people earn four MOS certifications and become a Microsoft Office Specialist, they earn an average of $16,000 more per year than those without the specialist certifications.

What is NIMS Certification?
Skills in the metalworking industry are certified through the earning of NIMS credentials. The credentials are awarded on satisfactory completion of both performance tests and related theory exams. NIMS certifications require both performance and theory exams. The performance will be the manufacturing of a part, the set-up and operation of a CNC machine or the writing of a program that will manufacture a specific part.
