Updating all METS for Re-Evals
Two items are determined in a MET-
- Does this student still present with a disability?
- Does it require specialized instruction through SE?
Your REED is the start of this process. It feeds the MET.
The first page of the REED includes an important REVIEW OF EXISTING DATA - 3 boxes. This sets the tone for what information you have , and helps you decide what you need.
On page 2 of the REED, you have 4 questions to answer. These tie directly to the 2 questions on your MET (listed above).
Do you need more information to answer the two MET questions? That is the testing/observations/evals you are requesting on your REED, page 2.
*Important: you can check all 4 boxes "no additional data needed: on your REED, and still update your MET from the information on REED p.1 However, be thoughtful in considering if you have enough information to go on to continue to show the impact of the disability and the need for specialized instruction.
Often, we "know" going into the re-evaluation that a student continues to have a disability - i.e. ASD. We may also "know" that they continue to require special education support - all of those reasons WHY are what you are updating in the MET to show WHY they continue to need the support.
If the student eligibility isn't changing, at the least we need to update these portions of the MET: PLAFP (usually near the top),teacher observations, and parent input.
It shows the "thinking" behind why we "know" they continue to qualify.
***There will be exceptions! There are special cases. Call and let's have that discussion, and iron out our best practice as we move forward.
