Battle of Antietam
The Battle of Antietam began on September 17, 1862. They fought in a sunken road which was soon known as Bloody Lane. This led to Emancipation Proclamation. 80% of John Bells soldiers died at the end of the cornfield. Lincoln fired McClellan after the Battle of Antietam. Union considered it a victory Lincoln soon changed the way he thought about the role of slavery in the war.
Battle of Gettysburg
The battle of Gettysburg began in July of 1863, the most decisive battle in the Civil War. Confederates entered looking for supplies. Confederate forces led by General George Pickett & Union forces were led by General George Meade. Gettysburg ended the Confederates hope of obtaining help from Britain and France. South help receive two ironclads from British and used them sweep Unions shipping from the Atlantic. Officials and Citizens gathered to dedicate the soldiers at Nation Ceremony. Lincoln honored the deceased soldiers and their cause and stated his vision for the country.
Battle of Vicksburg
The Battle of Vicksburg began June if 1863 the day after Lee retreated from Gettysburg. Confederacy suffered major blow, therefore, the Mississippi river fell under the control of the Union troops led by Ulysses S. Grant. The Anaconda plan is applied to an outline strategy for suppressing the Confederacy at the beggining of the war. Union prevented food and supplies from reaching confederates. During the war Confederacy lost part of Hudson in Louisiana. Union soon split the South in two. Arkanas, Louisiana, and Texas were cut off and the tide of Civil War had reappeared.
