Home Test Kits for February Break
We strongly encourage all staff and students to take an at-home rapid test before returning to school on February 28, regardless of their vaccination status. Staff and students are not required to show proof of a negative test result before being allowed to return to school.
If your child tests positive on a home test, your child must isolate for 5 days if they are in grades K–12 following the positive result. Please contact your child’s school immediately and report the test results. K–12 Students who test positive for COVID-19 and are isolating at home will continue to be provided asynchronous remote instruction and access to office hours with their teacher.
If your child has recovered from COVID-19 in the last 90 days, they will not receive a test kit and may continue to attend school unless they develop COVID-like symptoms. You can find charts that outline the steps you should take if your child feels sick, was exposed to COVID-19, or tested positive for COVID-19, at schools.nyc.gov/school-life/health-and-wellness.
Saturday Morning Painting Project for Students and Parents
Looking for something fun and creative to do with your children, especially during these cold and somewhat boring winter months? We are excited to announce that IS 75 is once again partnering with Sundog Theatre, Inc., to bring you an innovative in-person, parent/child Saturday morning painting program.
Here are the details: This Family Engagement grant, sponsored by The Department of Education’s Office of Arts & Special Projects, will allow us to offer a series of four separate sessions between February and May (each session is made up of three-parts – three Saturdays), and will meet from 9 am -11 am. You can choose from the session dates that appear below (indicate first and second choice):
Session I – February 5, February 12, and March 5
Session II – March 12, March 19, and March 26
Session III – April 2, April 9, and April 30
Session IV – May 7, May 14, and May 21
The Project: During these sessions, parent/student pairs will collaborate with each other (under the expert guidance of a very talented teaching artist) to produce a beautiful canvas that will be a lasting memento of the middle school years. Families will begin by researching and choosing an inspirational quote, or perhaps even a family saying, that is particularly meaningful to them (examples will be provided), and then design how they would like to present it and make it come alive on canvas. (Again examples will be provided). Families will get professional instruction on color; design; font/lettering; imagery; tone; style and more. We did this project a number of years ago and it was a smash hit!
Fill out the Google Form below as soon as possible, with a first and second choice of dates (you can even register for more than one session and make two projects!):

The Department of Education has updated its COVID-19 health policies effective Monday, January 31st as follows:
Shortened Isolation Period for Positive Cases
The isolation period for all staff and students in grades kindergarten and higher who test positive for COVID-19 has been shortened to five days. Anyone returning from a five-day isolation period should be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and their overall symptoms should be improving; they must be able to wear a well-fitting mask while at school from Day 6 through Day 10. DOHMH recommends a high-grade well-fitting mask such as a KN95 or KF94, or a surgical mask worn under a cloth mask. Custodian Engineers have adult-sized KN95 masks available for staff and for students who can tolerate a high-grade mask; they also have three-ply surgical masks for students who cannot tolerate a high-grade mask, including younger students
When staff and students (in any grade) have completed their isolation period, they are not required to produce a negative test result before being allowed to return to school or work. An individual may continue to receive a positive COVID-19 test result for up to 90 days even though they are no longer infectious.
New Quarantine Guidelines
Students in K-12: If a student is not fully vaccinated and exposed to COVID-19 outside of a school setting, the individual must now quarantine for at least five days; this has been shortened from 10 days. Anyone returning from a five-day quarantine period must wear a well-fitting mask, as mentioned above, while at school from Days 6 through 10.
For an unvaccinated student who is exposed in the home, the student must continue to quarantine for an additional five days after a household member’s isolation period has ended, if the household member is not isolated from the student or the student continues to be exposed to the household member in the same home during that time.
As a reminder, staff and students in grades kindergarten and higher, when exposed to COVID-19 at school, do not need to quarantine and should continue to use the home test kits provided by their school. These students and staff should only receive one home test kit per week, regardless of the number of exposures during that week.
Guidance for Individuals Recently Recovered from COVID-19
Starting Monday, January 31, the daily health screening form will be revised to reflect these new policies mentioned above as well as options for those recently recovered from COVID-19.. Additionally, policy will reflect that those recovered from COVID-19 in the past 90 days should not participate in rapid home testing or school-based testing.
Face Covering Reminders
As a reminder, the DOE’s face covering policy continues to be in effect. All staff, students, and visitors over the age of two years old entering a New York City Department of Education (DOE) school building MUST wear a face covering in accordance with this guidance unless they have a medical exemption. Face coverings must be worn both indoors and outdoors when on DOE school grounds, regardless of COVID-19 vaccine status.

8th Grade Senior Updates and Info
Behind the scenes, our staff have been brainstorming ideas and working on ways to make our future graduates’ final year a memorable one, aside from yet another year of tumult attributed to the longer-than-expected reach of the pandemic. Ongoing changes impacting the DOE, myriad factors outside our control, and future uncertainty present significant challenges. That said, we are striving to do what we can to ensure our 8th graders look back upon their middle school years fondly and with pride, and finish on a positive note
Senior Trip
According to the most updated DOE guidance, field trips to NJ are permitted. We have secured coach buses and have tentatively established Friday, June 3, 2022 as the date for our senior trip to Six Flags in Jackson, NJ. Details on this are forthcoming, and note that the cost of this event is not included in senior dues.
Graduation
At this time, with regard to graduation, we plan on hosting the ceremony in-person in our schoolyard. Tentative dates are Tuesday, June 21 and/or Wednesday, June 22. Specifics are forthcoming.
Arista
Unless DOE guidance on visitor restrictions changes, the grade eight Arista ceremony will be held in our auditorium for students only, and will be live-streamed for families. Details on this event, including notification of eligible candidates will be shared in due time via our Arista coordinator, Ms. Jeannine Valenti.
Yearbook Ads
In case anyone has missed our previous correspondence regarding placing a yearbook ad, see the website and note the firm deadline of March 14, 2022. Click this link to get started
Senior dues will be accepted through the end of February.
Accurate projections must be made in terms of people, space, and materials involved in graduation. Therefore, your prompt attention to this matter is appreciated. Payment of Senior Dues can be made via our website at https://www.is75.org/ under the School Store/Online Payments tab.
As always, we would like to thank you for your continued cooperation and support of the many once-in-a-lifetime activities to come. If you have any questions concerning the dues or activities planned, please reach out to our senior events coordinators, Ms. LaRocca or Ms. Boshnack, via PupilPath, or feel free to contact us at 718-701-6343.
We look forward to a memorable year for our graduating class of 2022!
