Ms. Kenney's Class
Happenings in Room 118
There are many things going on here in second grade, as always. We are eagerly learning new things everyday and practicing already learned material as well. Today we took our Unit 4 math test. On Monday we will begin Unit 5 and will finish before the break. When we return we will be starting a new math unit, writing unit and begin with a new science unit (air and weather). I can't believe how the time flies! I want to thank you all for your support and dedication to your children. Without you, the school year wouldn't be as smooth and wonderful.
Holiday Spirit
Callie is getting into the holiday spirit here at school!
Pie Throwing for Food Drive
Way to go Mrs. Cleary! Her class collected the most food items in the school and was awarded with a nice pie in the face. The students really enjoyed the assembly. Thanks again for the donations!
Read Aloud
Natalie is reading the class a story. I encourage students to choose a read aloud if they would like and practice if for fluency then share with the class.
Realistic Fiction
The class has been creating characters, added a plot with details. Something we work on everyday when writing our stories is "showing not telling". A realistic story does not go in steps, but is like a movie in our minds put onto paper. If you are doing any writing at home with your children, you might encourage them to use this writing strategy. The stories are coming along great and we will finish this unit before the holiday break. Our next unit is poetry.
