ECDC Group Norms-adopted 11/5/19
Assume Positive Intent-Always:
If we assume positive intent in conversations, emails and other interactions, then we are less likely to get defensive and more likely to be able to ask clarifying questions when we feel targeted or misunderstood in any interaction.
Be Respectful: Embrace an Expectation of Respect and Trust
Foster an environment that recognizes each individual's strengths and contributions. Listen to understand rather than to respond. If respected, we will feel safe to share ideas, worries and concerns allowing issues to be resolved quickly.
Be Present:
In classrooms, meetings or conversations, if both/all parties are engaged and not distracted, the interaction will be more positive and effective.
Be Kind: Recognize that Others Need to Feel Valued and Supported:
If you notice someone being helpful or just doing a great job, tell them! If you see someone struggling, help them! We are in this together!
Be Mindful of the Each Other's Time:
Come to meetings and conversations prepared, with a clear focus and/or agenda, avoid distractions.
Windows!
I will ask Brian to also be aware, but if he is out, the sub custodian would not notice.
Townspeople have reported our open windows in the past, so we must be diligent!
Thank you!
Franklin Portrait of a Graduate -- Feedback wanted
The Franklin Public Schools’ Portrait of a Graduate represents the community’s consensus of five essential skills each student practices and develops, individually and collaboratively through teamwork throughout all grades in Franklin Public Schools, in order to provide a foundation for their future growth, fulfillment, and success.

Lockdown Clarification
I understand that the lockdown practices, the whole idea that we need to practice, is REALLY hard and can be very unsettling for those of you who are with little ones when they happen. I just want to clarify a few things.
Given the developmental level of the children we have, I feel strongly that there is GREATER value in NOT teaching the children that they are practicing a lockdown, but instead just practicing "STOP, LOOK for an adult, and LISTEN to directions. " and then being quiet for a story or another quiet activity. I have discussed this with our SRO and the other officers and we all agree. The following is part of what I sent to parents. If you feel this does not make sense you, or if you have further questions, PLEASE COME SEE ME!
"During the lockdown drill, staff and students moved to their classroom’s identified “safe space” that is away from doors and windows. They practiced sitting quietly while one of their teachers checked classroom and exterior doors. After the Franklin Police Department and the school’s administration had a chance to check all of ECDC, students may have heard my voice signaling that the lockdown practice was over and normal classroom activities resumed. The entire event lasted about 5 minutes and students were calm and many even thought it was kind of fun!
Here at ECDC we understand that our children are very young and still can be protected from much of the ugliness of the world, for that reason we will keep all drills light, and playful while we focus on making sure our little ones can STOP, LOOK for an adult, and LISTEN to directions. "
Our next step in our safety drills will be to hand out ropes for securing the doors...but this will happen with an additional short training and practice session!
Community Breakfast/Fun
I Noticed....
I noticed...from Miss Jen to her staff (and those who helped fill in the gaps),
This past week was a challenging week in our classroom. Meetings and sick kids had me out of the classroom more than in it! My Team stepped up and worked together to keep students learning and each other sane! Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication to our students, you are appreciated.
