Background
Miguel Cervantes is the son of a deaf surgeon. When Cervantes was four, his family moved north to Valladolid. He became a soldier in 1570 and was badly wounded in the battle of Le panto. Cervantes was captured by the Turks in 1575 and put in prison. He was freed in 1580 and returned home.
Soon after that happened, Cervantes's father was soon imprisoned for debts, and all the family's possessions were confiscated.
He wrote the Don Quixote
The Don Quixote is a finely crafted novel that mocks the Literary fashion of Cervantes's time.

- Don Quixote did not make Cervantes wealthy; at the time, authors did not receive royalties for their works.
- He failed to finish "The Labors of Persiles and Sigismunda before his death.
