Red Ribbon Week
Dear Parents,
It is that time of year again in which October is upon us. Every October, we celebrate Red Ribbon Week. This month, we will learn about drug awareness as it relates to the dangers of alcohol, tobacco products, and improper use of medicine.
Grades K and 1 will watch our Danger Rangers safety videos that discuss medicine safety and other safety rules as well as complete a follow up activity.
Grade 2 will learn about the definition of a drug (something you take that alters the way the body works) and will discuss medicine safety and dangers. They will make a medicine safety book that will come home with them after they have the lesson. We will also discuss the dangers of tobacco use with this age group.
Grade 3 will discuss the definition of a drug as well, in addition to the dangers of medicine when it is taken incorrectly. This grade level will also talk about tobacco and alcohol use and how these substances affect the body. Student will act out a play in class that incorporates this idea. This week, 3rd graders are performing Charlie and His Magnificent Machine that educates students on how taking unknown medicine can affect our body.
Grade 4 will have a classroom lesson on the dangers of tobacco, play a Kahoot and have an activity to reinforce what they have learned.
Grade 5 will learn about the dangers of alcohol abuse, a play about tobacco use, and a Kahoot about alcohol.
As a school, we display our commitment to drug awareness and healthy choices by engaging in dress up days.
These will occur October 29th –November 2nd, 2018.

If you have the time we could surely use you! We are looking for volunteers who would love to come in to work with individual or small groups of children. If you are interested, please email Hana Sands at hsands@rhmail.org. Research says that the difference in the success and failure of a student, is based upon the number of caring adults that are in their lives.
Walking Wednesdays
On Wednesdays students will enter the school as usual. If they eat breakfast at school then they should go there first. Otherwise, students will put their book bags in their classrooms and begin to walk the hallways. We know that exercise increases blood flow and oxygen to the brain and we're excited about this opportunity to improve our own health and academic learning. We will walk each Wednesday until 7:30 a.m. when students will enter the classroom to start their day.

School Improvement Survey
Dear Parent/Guardian:
During the month of November you will be receiving a link to complete a survey for our school’s accreditation review. To continuously improve, we need your feedback.
Our school and the school district are reviewed every five years to ensure we have processes and systems in place to continuously improve. For the past 10 years, Rock Hill School District has been accredited by the AdvancED organization.
Accreditation is a quality assurance process where systems, resources, and standards are evaluated by an external body to determine if the system meets applicable standards for continuous improvement. Every five years, our school and the school district participate in the accrediting review process.
The process includes collecting data from parents, students, and staff surveys, assessing school and school district processes, and reviewing standards to determine if the school and system are on the path to continuously improve.
We really need your feedback, so please take a few moments to complete the brief survey.
Thank you and know that we value your opinions and appreciate your time!
