5th Grade


Tuesday and Wednesday we will be taking the STAAR Benchmark. Please DO NOT stress over this. It will not count as a grade. Students may bring a snack to eat and a water bottle (water only please). We ask that you avoid bringing snacks that will cause sticky or messy fingers (i.e. Cheetos). Also, please be sure they eat a good breakfast.

On Monday we will go over Unit #4A test and review some reading strategies we have learned this year. Wednesday we will take the Reading STAAR Benchmark. Thursday and Friday we will work on Informational Text comprehension, focusing on text features and Main Idea.

We will not have a spelling list this week, due to Benchmark testing.

Friday we will have a Vocabulary quiz.


On Monday we will go over Unit #8 test and review what we have learned this year. Tuesday we will take the Math STAAR Benchmark and Thursday we will start Unit #9: Coordinates on a plane. Students will learn how to place an ordered pair, how to move on a coordinate grid using the compass rose, and learn about additive and multiplicative patterns.

Monday's homework will not be due until Thursday. No homework will be due on Friday this week


We will finish up Unit #7: Sun, Moon, and Earth. We will create a model to demonstrate revolution and rotation and work through stations to learn more about the sun, earth, and moon. Students will also learn about shadows and how the location of the sun can change the way a shadow appears. They will take a vocabulary quiz on Thursday.

Social Studies

Week 14: Immigration. Students will read about westward expansion and the Statue of Liberty.
