WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD WITH THE SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION
There are so many ways to help your child at home even if you are not fluent in the target language they are learning. Here are some tips for doing so:
- ask what they learned in class
- review their vocabulary or class notes with them for 5-10 minutes daily.
- listen to music in the target language.
- watch Television or movies in the target language.
- speak the target language if possible at home.
- flashcards with vocabulary
- label items in the house in the target language.
- use free digital platforms like Duolingo for 5 minutes a day.
WHAT ARE WE DOING THIS MONTH?
SPANISH ACADEMY
Spanish 1(6th)- Students are learning about “La familia” The family. The students will be able to talk about their family and friends, also describe people and things, and express possession.
Spanish 1 (7th)-Students are learning about “Las Vacaciones”, The vacations. The students will be able to discuss and plan vacations. Also describe a hotel. We will review the seasons and the weather. (Sra. Morales)
In Sra. Miguez's class students are learning:
. Discuss and plan a vacation.
. Writing a brochure for a hotel.
. Talk about how you feel.
. Talk about the seasons and the weather.
. A video about Machu Picchu
. Cultural, geographic, and historical information about Puerto Rico.

Spanish 2- Students will be introduced to the following:

FRENCH ACADEMY
French 1(6th)-The students are learning vocabulary words on Family and friends. For Grammar, they will also learn about the demonstrative adjectives, possessive adjectives, numbers 61-100 and the prepositions of location.
French 1 (7th)-The students are learning about parties and celebrations. In addition, they will learn the demonstrative adjectives, past tense with avoir, indirect object pronoun and irregular/regular er -ending verbs.
French 2- The students are learning vocabulary words on food. For grammar, they are learning the present tense of the verbs devoir,vouloir and pouvoir, the comparatives/superlatives ,adverbs and the double object pronouns.
TWO WAY DUAL LANGUAGE ACADEMY
español
sexto grado(6)- students will be working on the family, professions and descriptive vocabulary. They will also review the possessive adjectives to complete a family project with all topics learned.
séptimo grado(7)-students have been working on the different forms of nouns and their types. They will understand the differences of meaning based on the change of the article before the nouns. They will also begin working on the types of adjectives and how to recognize them in specific content.
octavo grado AP(8)-Students have been working on the email replies covering all curricular themes. We will begin with the new AP portion which is Cultural comparison. Students will learn how to express comparisons and similarities between their community and a Spanish speaking country with a topic given. This a both a written and oral practice.
ciencias/Science
6to-Students will be covering Life science. They will be working on cells, classification, and the human body.
7mo-Students will covering Life science. They will be learning about Reproduction-DNA, Genetics, and Ecological Relationships.
8vo- Students will be covering Physical Science. They are learning about pure substances, changes in matter, and the process of living systems.
