The Manning Weekly Newsletter
May 24, 2019
And that's a wrap, folks!
Last night's continuation ceremony was special. We had 225 8th graders excitedly receive their certificates for successful completion of middle school. I didn't realize how mature our 8th graders have become, until I shook their hands yesterday and pictured them all as freshmen next year, studying in their academic classes, playing their instruments in higher level musical ensembles, making new friends in the cafeteria, participating in high school sports, and contributing to the culture of a new school just as they did here. I have no doubt they are ready for this next step in their lives! We will miss our 8th graders, and wish you all the best in your next four years of high school.
At the same time, we are excited to welcome a brand new class of incoming 6th graders to Manning for the 2019-2020 school year. It's also important to recognize how exceptionally strong our current 6th and 7th grade classes have proved to be throughout this school year in terms of academics, conscientiousness, and spirit. I'm really looking forward to seeing them fill their shells as upperclassmen and make a huge difference in our school culture next year.
Thank you all for an amazing school year. We wish you a safe and happy summer, and we look forward to seeing you again in August.

At Manning, we strive to live our core values every day.
HONESTY
- Owen Fulkerson is always so enthusiastic about everything he does and he never hides his emotions. It's always so great to hear about his interests, and he always shares funny memes with everyone.
- Ellie Bucholtz-Truong helped to create an open and honest atmosphere in our access class. She was honest about her feelings from the start and made sure that during community circles other students felt open to express their feelings.
- Lydia York shared an amazing, open presentation about some of her personal struggles. Lydia's willingness to share with others will always create an atmosphere of openness and understanding. Stay Gold, Lydia!
EFFORT
- Mrs. Mendez is an amazing person. Even through the tough and stressful times during the school year, she always pulls out an amazing show. I always look forward to going to her classes, because she always has a smile on her face and makes our hard work fun. Thanks to her, we have pulled off amazing shows. Thank you for all the effort and hard work you put into each of your classes!
ACHIEVEMENT
- Maisie Jaworsky got 100% in 6th science! Thank you Maisie for working hard, redoing work when there were mistakes, preserving, and for always being willing to help your peers. We are incredibly proud of you scientist!!
- I have never met a student with such clear and strong passions who is also able to balance school work so well. Addy Pung worked hard in ELA all year, and at any opportunity possible, she explored her passion for horses in depth. She also maintained a consistently positive attitude and always worked hard no matter what. It's been a privilege to teach you this year.
- Julia Kaufholz became the dictionary for our ELA class while we struggled through the difficult vocabulary in both The Call of the Wild and Oliver Twist. She was able to recall the definition of transience, which we learned in the beginning of the year, when discussing a poem today and it showed how deeply she learns and how helpful she can be to her peers. It's been an honor to be in her presence this year! Stay Gold!!!
RESPECT
- Ella Yancey is so kind and so helpful. It's hard to put into words what kind of impact she has on her peers. She is a bright light and is always willing to say a kind word or help someone out.
- In the year that I have known him, I've never heard J.J. Kilian utter and unkind word. He is the sweetest individual and is so friendly and open to everyone. Stay gold!
- Zoe Miller connects well with everyone. She is also very caring and compassionate and makes sure everyone feels welcome wherever she goes. Stay Gold!
- Mila Sobiech has such a kind heart. She is always positive, encouraging, and helpful to everyone.
TEAMWORK
- Ms. McLeod's Access class has been amazing this year. We built a solid community and worked hard but also had fun. It's not often that so many different people can get along so harmoniously, and it was truly magical. Thank you so much for making this year one that I will never forget.
- Even though he didn't share as many classes with the students in access class, Kahler Cardone made sure to get out of his comfort zone, get to know every student, and make sure everyone felt like a part of the team.
- You know who you are. Team Stoop always made sure that students had fun during access class on Fridays. They worked hard not to leave anyone out and to make sure everyone ended the week with a smile.
