May Edition

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that it is already May! We are so proud of our children. They continue to learn and grow as students. Our 3rd-5th grade students have finished part of our state testing and we will conclude testing in May. They are doing a great job!

We have so many school events during the month of May. Please check your child's weekly newsletter and our website for upcoming events. Also, if you have a chance to join us for lunch, please do so.

If you would like to serve on our School Improvement Plan (SIC) next year, please contact Mrs. Jackson @ 355-4600.

Library End of Year Dates

As the school year draws to a close there are several important dates for students.

May 9: Last day to check out library books

May 13: All library books are due!

This year if every student turns in his or her library books on May 13, Mrs. Imms will give the whole school ice pops.

Book Swap

Tigerville's annual book swap will be held on Saturday, May 14, from 8:30 AM- 9:30 AM. Students may bring gently used books to the library from May 9-13. They will be given a book coupon to select books at the book swap. Students may bring as many books as they like, but they will only be allowed to receive a maximum of five at the book swap.

Notes from the Music Room

I'm so proud of the kids for working so hard in Music class this year. Every grade level met the goals I had set for them at the begining of the year. K4/5 is almost done with our storytelling unit, 1st and 2nd will have their Piano Skills test this week and 3rd-5th have done an amazing job with the Recorder Unit this year. My only regret: My 5th graders are leaving Tigerville.

Field Day 2016

Field Day is Friday, May 20th, and fast approaching! Here are a few reminders:

  • Parents are welcome to come to Field Day and watch your child have a great time.
  • Our volunteers will be the Blue Ridge Football team again this year!
  • Water and a snack will be provided for each student, teacher, and volunteer. Parents are encouraged to bring personal water as Field Day will be outside for most of the day!
  • Please remind your child to wear athletic clothes, tennis shoes, and sunscreen for Field Day.
  • Although, our Field Day does consist of lots of water, students are NOT permitted to wear bathing suits.

Spring Canned Food Drive

The Beta club and Student Council are sponsoring a canned food drive for May 2- 27. Students will be in competition to see who can donate the most cans during the month of May! Make sure to put your name and your teacher’s name when you deposit your goods in the box in front of the school. The K4-2nd and 3rd-5th class that gives the most will win extra recess!

Summer Reading 2016

Do you have what it takes to be a Reading Superhero. Mrs. Imms is looking a few, good Reading Superheroes. Reading logs and rules will be given out the week of May 16th. Watch for a special reading challenge to be given out during Morning News the week of May 16th.
