READ-A-THON CHALLENGE
INSTRUCTIONAL TIME FOR HYBRID AND DISTANCE
BEGINNING OCTOBER 27, 2020
Hybrid Option
Students will receive two full days of in-person instruction that is personalized according to the readiness level of each student. Teachers will provide asynchronous (on-your own) learning experiences for students to complete on the days they do not attend school for in-person learning. All students in kindergarten through grade 5 will receive 45 minutes of synchronous (hybrid days) or asynchronous (distance days) special instruction in art, music, physical education, library, and school counseling. Gifted education will be provided asynchronously at least twice monthly.
Distance Option
Students will continue to receive the same amount of instruction in the distance environment as they have since September 8, 2020. All students in kindergarten through grade five who selected the distance learning option will receive 90 minutes of synchronous instruction for core areas four days each week. Students in kindergarten through grade three will receive an additional 60 minutes of asynchronous learning experiences (on-your-own). Students in grades four and five will receive an additional 90 minutes of asynchronous learning experiences (on-your-own). All students in kindergarten through grade 5 will receive 45 minutes of synchronous or asynchronous special instruction in art, music, physical education, library, and school counseling. Gifted education will be provided asynchronously at least twice monthly.
All students, hybrid and distance, will also participate in a 30 minute synchronous morning meeting each school day. Some students will participate in synchronous small group instruction in addition to the recommended instructional time.
NEW TEACHER TEAMS BEGIN OCTOBER 27
Aldie Elementary was recently allocated three additional teacher positions and a teacher assistant position to support students in both the hybrid and distance environments. Candidates have been selected for most of these positions; however, the hiring process is not yet complete. We will announce the teachers as soon as we are able and will arrange times for children and families to meet our newest staff members.
Instructional teams will collaborate to plan and deliver instruction to ensure that all students are fully supported and to minimize the impact of the transition to hybrid learning for some students.
