Mary Bryan Elementary is getting a new staff member!
Meet Vardon! He will be the newest addition to the MBES staff starting next week.
Vardon has been in training for over a year waiting for this moment! The organization called ICAN, or Indiana Canine Assistance Network, trains all different types of service dogs. Our school will be getting Vardon, who is specially trained to be a facility dog and has been matched to our school! Vardon has extensive training that includes a temperament test, formal obedience and service work, and multiple public access tests.
A facility dog is trained to assist children in a variety of ways.
He will help children who may be sad.
He will celebrate children’s achievements.
He will model how to be a good friend and listener.
He will listen to students read!
While at school, Vardon will wear his working harness and always be on a leash. Students and adults must ask first before they pet or touch the dog because he is a working dog. Vardon will be under the control of Mrs. Payne, his handler, at all times. Students (and adults) who may have a fear of dogs will never be forced to interact with him. He will also have frequent visits to the groomer, to reduce the amount of allergens.
We are so excited to welcome Vardon to our family at school!

Dear Parents/Guardians of second and fifth grade students:
We need additional information on the academic needs and performance of individual students in order to provide instruction at the appropriate level for each child. We are continuing our screening for the high ability program and depending on the information needed your second or fifth grade child may be administered a standardized test during the month of December. Parents of students who qualify for the program will receive a letter by the end of May. If you have any questions regarding testing, please contact Kim Jovic at kjovic@perryschools.org.
