This Week at École OLPH
September 25 ~ 29
Message from the Office
Dear Parents & Students,
Congratulations to the grade 8 parents/students for a wonderful start to their fundraising year. Your energy is fantastic!!!! We would like to invite all families to participate in the different fundraising activities that will help support our Grade 8 Quebec students.
Our first Digital Citizenship assembly took place last week. The students were enthusiastic to learn about strategies regarding keeping their passwords safe and private. We encourage you to have a discussion with your child regarding this assembly. As well, please see the important links further down in the Smore.
We would like to Thank all of you for the care and caution you have been using when dropping off or picking up your children. This has enabled all of our students to stay safe at all times. Merci.
God Bless

Be Like Terry Fox!!!
Chers Parents,
École OLPH will be participating in the National School Run Day on Thursday, September 28th, in support of the Terry Fox Foundation. This year, our school theme will continue to be “ Soyez Comme Terry” ~ "Be Like Terry".
Although we are a smaller school community, we are hoping to continue to support the Terry Fox Foundation as much as we have in the past. Our goal is to raise $1500 this year, since we met this goal last year, we feel confident that we will be able to accomplish it again.
Our challenges to the students are:
Challenge 1: If the students raise $1 000, the students will get to wear their hats in the school for a week.
Challenge 2: If the students raise $1 250, the students will get a 15 minute recess during the afternoon for a week.
Challenge 3: If the students raise $1 500, M. St.Jean will be duct taped to the school’s flag post and a random draw of all the students who make a donation will determine who will get to pie M. St.Jean!
We will be collecting donations beginning Monday, September 11th, until Thursday, October 5th. Students are asked to hand in all donations to the office. Donations can also be made online through the Terry Fox Foundation website at
www.terryfox.ca/OurLadyofPerpetualHelp.
Tax receipts will be issued by the Terry Fox Foundation for any cheque donations greater than $20.
Thank you for your support in the fight against cancer!
Merci beaucoup,
The Grade 6 Team,
Mme Miller & Mlle Roy
Grade 8 ~ Quebec Trip Information
As a reminder, this year all payment fees for the Quebec trip will be processed through your child’s PowerSchool account. This process is scheduled to begin as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding with regards to this new process.
Should you still wish to pay by cheque, please make the cheques payable to EICS.
If you were unable to attend or have any questions or concerns, please contact Mme Gagnon at deniseg@eics.ab.ca for more information.
Wanted ~ Old LP Records!!!
Mme Gagnon is needing Old LP Records for an Art Option Painting Project.
If you have any at home, please bring them to the Mme Winland in the office.
Merci!
École OLPH Cheer Team Information
OLPH is pleased to offer a cheer team this season.
Cheer is the fastest growing sport in North America right now and has recently been made a provisional sport in the Olympics. Cheer is more than standing on the sidelines cheering for other sports teams, cheer teams compete against other cheer teams in their own competitions.
We are looking for 12-28 athletes that are interested in tumbling, dancing and stunting-Grades 5-8 welcome!!
This event is casual and a chance to try some skills and get a feel for cheer. Please wear athletic clothes (Tshirt, shorts and inside shoes).
Tryouts will be Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 4-6pm at EPK gym.
Once the team is put together practices will be at EPK on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-6:00pm from October until May. The team will perform at 2-3 competitive events and cost for the year is expected to be under $100.
If you have questions please email OLPHcheerteam@gmail.com
Valeda House & EICS
Valeda House is a ministry of Catholic Social Services serving as a home to up to six young women, who either have young children or are expecting.
In addition to being a home for these women for up to six months, Valeda House offers programs and support to allow these mothers to find long term housing and to address the underlying issues that may be associated with homelessness.
The call to support Valeda House, as well as to educate and create awareness, has been made. Our Elk Island Catholic School family has answered the challenge of supporting and engaging in this ministry, which has served women from all of our communities, and which runs entirely on donated support.
