Greetings Ridge Student, Parents and Guardians:

A reminder that this is a three-day weekend for your student. In commemoration of the birth and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Monday, January 17th is a district holiday!

As we grapple with Covid issues, please remember to keep your student at home if they are not feeling well, especially if they have a fever or other Covid symptoms. We ask for your patience as we grapple with issues that affect daily school operations. Due to the pandemic, we are struggling to cover classes for absent teachers. We usually do a great job covering those classes with substitute teachers, but from time to time we have to combine classes to ensure students have a teacher.

We encourage you to access the Aeries system to keep track of your student's attendance and grades. While we try to make you aware of issues related to attendance and grades, you are the best source to keep track of your student's progress. If you need help accessing Aeries for grades or attendance, please call the office and we will assist you.

Enjoy the three-day weekend with your family!

- Mr. Hadley

Spend an Evening with Bestselling Author Jeff Selingo

KISD Counseling is excited to invite our families to spend an evening with bestselling author Jeff Selingo, who immersed himself in the world of college admissions for a year to answer the question on the minds of teenagers and their parents: how do colleges select their freshman class?

Jeff is a journalist and higher education author whose most recent book, “Who Gets In And Why: A Year Inside College Admissions” gives readers a peek behind the curtain of elite college admissions. In writing the book, Jeff spent a year embedded in the selection process at the University of Washington, Emory University, and Davidson College and followed a group of high-school seniors through the college search. Throughout the book he introduces you to the players behind-the-scenes — the marketers, the financial-aid consultants, and the rankers who have a role in who gets in and why.

Jeff will be at the CHS auditorium on Tuesday, January 25th from 6:00-8:00 pm to speak to parents and students about his inside view of the college admissions process. The event will also be live streamed via YouTube and available to view after the event for 7 days on the KISD webpage. In this conversation with KISD Director of District Counseling Programs, Dr. Sandra Benavidez, Jeff will dispel the entrenched notions of how to compete and win at the admissions game, reveal why families have much to gain by broadening their notion of what qualifies as a “good” college, and explain how the pandemic impacts admissions.

Other topics to be discussed include the role of academic rigor, rank, GPA, and other criteria in the college admissions process.

Free Online Tutoring Available Now!

Keller ISD has partnered with Tutor.com in an effort to provide more academic support to high school students and families.

Online tutorial service will be available for KISD high school students seven days a week, between the hours of 6 a.m. to midnight. Tutoring hours will be capped at 90 minutes per student per week, with hours resetting every Friday. If students need more support, they should contact their teacher and discuss additional options.

This online tutorial service is meant to provide supplemental support for students and should not replace teacher instruction. Students needing academic support should always reach out to their teachers first, then are encouraged to use Tutor.com services as additional assistance when needed.

Once the service begins, students will access online tutoring through KCloud, and will click the Tutor.com tile to log in to the service.

Tutor.com will be available for high school students in all subject areas and at all academic levels, and tutors are available for English and Spanish instruction.
