CVE Friday Flash
November 10, 2023
Mr. Macken's Message
Centerville Families,
In this edition of Friday Flash, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all soldiers, veterans, and their families. Your unwavering love for our country, commitment to patriotism, and selfless sacrifices have secured the freedoms we cherish.
A special note of gratitude goes to our local Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, as well as our CPTA, for their sponsorship of the remarkable STEM Night event this past Monday. The event was a resounding success, drawing the participation of nearly 200 families.
I also want to acknowledge the students who took the initiative to create banners in honor of Veteran's Day, and the dedicated teachers who played a crucial role in bringing this project to fruition. Your efforts undoubtedly made our veterans feel deeply appreciated.
Go Cougars!
Mike Macken

Volunteer Spotlight: Bri Wipperfurth
I am a part of the PTA, was the co-lead for the book fair last year, and have enjoyed shopping for teacher supplies this fall. I also love it when I get the opportunity to help in my kids' classrooms.
Why did you decide to volunteer at Centerville?
I like being involved and getting to know the teachers, staff, other kids, and parents.
What is your favorite part about volunteering?
My favorite part of volunteering is seeing how excited the kids get when they see an adult they know helping out during school. I also love seeing the kids interacting with one another.

Comprehension improves with movement
Research suggests that students can improve their reading comprehension and memory by moving around and acting out what they’ve read. Acting out a phrase or a passage can help kids make connections between the words on a page and real actions.
After reading a story with your child:
• Plan a puppet show and act out a few scenes from the story together.
• Dress up as characters and use props from around the house to reenact exciting scenes.
• Challenge your child to act out the story as you read it aloud.
